Isabella’s POV
My heart raced with throbbing fear, my breath growing with the passing of time.
My eyes darted around the thick bushes, peering through the darkness that cloaked in the dead of the night.
“Isabella!” A weak voice screamed from afar.
“Mum!!” I screamed, running towards the sound of the voice, beating through the thick bushes with every ounce of strength in me.
“Isabella!! Isabella!!”
“Ahhhhh!!” I jerked up from my sleep, panting and sweating profusely, my hand clutched tightly onto my chest, feeling my racing heartbeat.
“Isabella!” Alpha Lucian rushed in, grabbing me in his arms as he sat next to me on the bed.
I sobbed, resting on his shoulder while he patted my back softly.
“It's fine. It was just a nightmare,” he whispered, snuggling me in his arms.
“I just want it to stop. Make it stop,” I sobbed, tears flowing from my eyes.
Losing my parents was quite traumatising, and I haven't stopped being haunted by these incessant dreams.
I can't give any meaning to the nightmares, and the only comfort I get right now is Alpha Lucian.
“You look so adorable today,” he smiled as I slowly walked into the dining room, joining in on breakfast.
I blushed, keeping my shy gaze off his. “Oh stop it with the flattering.”
“I'm not flattering you. I'm being honest, my lady,” he chuckled.
“Good morning, Clara,” I said softly, slightly stealing a glance of her strict demeanour.
“You're always late for breakfast. So silly,” she replied sternly.
Shaking my head softly, I grabbed my cutleries, dishing my food in an attempt to eat.
“My brother is just being so lenient with you,” she added, letting out a deep sigh as she walked out of the dining room immediately.
“Clara!” Alpha Lucian barked.
“I can't stand her presence. You should understand me more, brother,” she retorted, walking out immediately.
Alpha Lucian sighed, exhaling heavily as he turned towards me, his eyes gloomy and saddened.
“I'm very sorry you had to hear that,” he apologized.
“It's alright. I think I've gotten used to it,” I replied softly.
“Don't talk like that, Isabella,” he grabbed my hand, gently rubbing it under his palm.
I lifted my eyes, locking my gaze onto his as we made keen eye contact.
“Tonight Isabella, I'm going to announce to every member of my park that they now have their Luna and my mate,” his face beamed with joy.
My cheeks reddened, blushing with so much excitement.
****
My cheeks reddened with a large smile, glaring at the shadowfang pack in their several wolf forms under the full moon, gathered under the howl of the Alpha.
The Alpha was the only werewolf who could transform at will under the full moon, while other werewolves could only return to their human form when the full moon is completely gone.
The weaker werewolves and those who still suffer late transformation aren't affected by the spell of the full moon in any way. That's how Shadowfang's Alpha knows the weaker wolves of his pack.
Standing on the balcony, I admired the view from above, glaring at the snarling werewolves, growling and flocking around the castle.
Suddenly, a huge wolf, covered in black fur and silver eyes beaming with aura majestically, walked into the balcony.
With a loud howl, he forced the whole pack to go quiet, converting the whole place into a total stand still.
Alpha Lucian returned into his human form, appearing naked before the whole pack.
He grabbed a red robe and covered his nakedness, his eyes darting around the pack with a stoic expression.
He cleared his throat. “The festival of the full moon.”
“Tonight, I announced that I was hiking to declare my mate before you all and imprint on her,” he announced, the wolves calm and quiet as they all gave him their attention.
My cheeks reddened in anticipation, waiting for him to drop the bombshell on me.
Since fate made us mates, all I've ever dreamed of was for him to announce it before his pack.
“Isabella Reeds of Shadowfang Pack, I hereby announce and declare you rejected as my mate,” he announced.
I gasped in shock, my eyes widening as my gaze averted towards him.
“Lu…” words eluded my lips as I glared in shock, tears flooding my ears.
“She's too weak to be my Luna, and that makes her unworthy to lead you, members of Pack, to the path we've dreamed of,” he added firmly.
He turned towards me, his stoic eyes locked onto mine.
Tears streamed down my eyes as I glared at him, trying so hard to remain in denial.
“Why?” I whispered faintly, the tears giving way like a flowing river down my cheeks.
With sealed lips, he walked out and headed straight for his chambers.
I stood at the spot, frozen to my bones as time froze before my eyes.
Moments of joy and fun flashed before my eyes like the present, pondering on whether everything was based on lies.
The rears just came flowing without stopping, my heart giving away to the pain that clutched onto it.
Driven by grief and a burning search for comfort, I rushed out from the balcony, making my way for the castle's exit immediately.
I burst into the road, taking to my heels while weeping profusely as I ran towards the border.
“Get as far away as you can from me,” my wolf yelled, sharing in my moment of deep grief.
At this moment, all I wanted to do was listen to the voice inside of me.
Racing without stopping, I kept at it, running towards the city gate.
I didn't care about the danger that lurked in the night under the full moon.
Death wasn't in the list of my fears anymore. If I came face to face with it, I would gladly embrace it with open arms.
Fortunately, I made it to the border, my heart aching with pain as my eyes darted between the path behind me and the path ahead of me.
Suddenly, the guards began walking towards me, their hands clenching tightly onto their weapons.
“Just let me get out of this pathetic city,” I said softly, heading towards the gate.
But they grabbed me immediately, tightly wrapping their hands around my feeble body.
In a flash, a dagger was driven through my heart immediately, giving me no time to react. Giving up the ghost, I blacked out and drew my last breath overwhelmed with pain.
