Chapter three

I gasped, my mouth thrown open as he glared at her in shock. “What makes you think you're capable of making me stay here?” I asked firmly, standing on my feet. She looked at me for a while and then let out a soft smile, standing up as well. She placed her right hand over my shoulder and looked into my troubled eyes. “Look, Isabella. Don't get the wrong picture here. It's dangerous out there in the woods. You won't survive a night,” she advised softly. I could see the care in her eyes. But I was desperately in need of answers. “You don't need to worry so much about me. I survived the last attack,” I boasted. She chuckled. “A rebirth doesn't mean your life is just going to respawn every time.” “Then I'll be careful,” I briefly interjected. Celine couldn't help the smile that masked her face. “What's the matter?” My eyebrows furrowed softly as I looked at myself, wondering what seemed so amusing. “I've known you for one night, and I can tell that you're quite a resilient fella,” she replied. “I'm confused, Celine. If what you said is true, then I need to know more about myself,” I said. Taking a deep breath, Celine cast her gaze to the ground as she arched her arm above her waist. Then she lifted her eyes up to me and glared straight into my eyes. Her eyes beamed with compassion, reminding me of the looks Alpha Lucian gave me before he saved me from the burning fire. “If that's your choice, then I'll have to follow you,” she said, breaking the silence. “You shouldn't stress yourself so much. I can take care of myself, Celine.” I didn't want to be too much of a burden to her. I have already disturbed her comfort, and pulling her out of her comfort zone would be too extreme. “You're not bothering me, Isabella. Just let me accompany you,” she insisted. “Besides, you can't go out without someone who knows her way around here and enough supplies,” she giggled. “I'm dead sure I needed the supplies,” I burst into laughter. Celine joined in, filling the room with a joyous atmosphere. We were set to leave in no time, and we had our bag packs stuffed with enough supply to keep us going. “You know you can still change your mind if you want to,” I suggested. “Isabella, just allow me to do the caring here,” Celine replied. Celine took a deep breath, taking one last glance at her hut as we both took our leave. From the tears clouding in her eyes, I could tell it was a hard decision for her. But I didn't understand why she was so bothered about a stranger. “I'm sorry I made you go through all of this,” I apologised. “What's with the apology? Who told you that you're the one that made me leave that hut? I was bound to leave the hut anyway,” she retorted firmly. “I just feel like a jerk for pulling you into helping me solve my own misery,” I said, my eyes gloomy as I threw my gaze to the ground. Feeling a soft pat on my back, Celine's hand rubbed against my back to shoulder softly. “It's young to be alright. Let's talk about how you died in the first place,” she suggested, her eyes beaming with curiosity. “What's the use of talking about it?” I inquired. “I'm just curious,” she admitted reluctantly. “The funny thing is that I couldn't see their faces that night. My memory remains a bit blurry when it comes to that scene,” I explained. “Here we are. Moonstone city,” she declared, gesturing towards the beautiful plain from above the cliff. I suddenly gasped and receded immediately, jolting from the sudden shock that gripped me. I didn't realise that we were on top of a cliff until Celine called my attention to it. “Careful, Isabella,” she grabbed my hand, helping me stand firmly on the ground. We both walked down the cliff and got into the city, welcomed by the buzzing sounds of the town. Eyes constantly took glances at us, obviously recognising us as travellers as we walked past the busy area. “Come, follow me,” Celine dragged me by the hand. We entered a restaurant and dropped our loads to the ground after we had ordered a meal from the counter. The stench of fur cloaked the air, revealing the presence of several other werewolves around. It was quite awkward because I was just getting used to experiencing this often. While we both ate our meals, we took time to talk about our lives in the past. “So you mean to say that you got rejected and you didn't care to meet him and ask for the reason?” “I was too broken to go back to him. He made his point that night,” I replied. “Well, you have me. I'm definitely not going to stand before a pack and reject you,” she chuckled, causing me to burst into laughter immediately. Suddenly, my instincts flared, noticing the presence of a few masked males in the restaurant. “We need to leave, Celine,” I said, hurriedly grabbing her hand. I was quickly blocked by another who stood behind me, blocking all exits out of the restaurant. My heart raced heavily, a throbbing fear clutching my nerves as it dawned on me that they weren't here on a good account. “What's going on?” Celine asked, her eyes darting between the masked men. “I don't know,” I sincerely admitted. They slowly closed in on us, and one of the men pulled out his dagger, raging violently with murderous intent displayed in his eyes. Dodging his attack, I skillfully disarmed him of his weapon. I didn't have time to think about how I managed to pull that off as the other raced towards me, each letting out their claws and their teeth. They didn't attack Celine for some reason. They were all bent on getting rid of me. But drawing from a strange amount of strength within me, I tried to defend myself. But their numbers were slowly gaining the advantage against my uncultured strength. Fortunately, Celine, using her magic, helped me to defeat them while capturing one of them. “Who sent you?” I violently asked, slamming his head against the table.
