Chapter five

Isabella’s POV I went mute, averting my gaze from Celine's as quickly as possible. My heart clanged harder against my chest, the reality of the whole event dawning on me slowly. My wolf went cold, going silent immediately. “The truth hurts,” they say. I guess they were right. I was so weak to accept the obvious reality that I was doing all this because of Alpha Lucian. I have been in denial. “Isabella,” Celine touched my shoulder softly. Taking a deep breath, I gently turned towards her, my eyes clouded with tears. “You don't need to hide anything from me,” she wrapped her arms around me, cupping me within her warm embrace. “He…he made a public mockery of me,” I stuttered, breaking down in tears as tears streamed down my eyes. “It's fine. Just let the tears out,” she consoled me, patting my back gently. “You shouldn't let him define how you love your life,” she advised. “It is hard to believe that a love story I held onto for years just went away in one night,” I replied. “I don't know so much about werewolves and bonding. But I sure do know that you're going to get over this someday,” she smiled, touching my cheek gently. “Maybe it's easier for you to say,” I replied, moving her hand off my cheek. She chuckled softly, keeping mute as she glared at me. “What?” I grew puzzled, curious about her sudden amusement. “You just remind me so much of me when I was younger,” she said. I furrowed my eyebrows, confusion etched all over my face. “What do you mean?” I asked. “I mean, I was once going through the same thing just as you are,” she replied, leaning her back gently against the bed. “I'm… What more don't I know about you?” I gasped in shock, dropping my jaw as I glared at her. “I once had a lover. But not a werewolf. He was a wizard. The strongest you could find,” she explained. Intrigued, I folded my arms and leaned next to her, giving her my full attention. “He was all I could wish for,” she continued. “I can literally imagine what you looked like when you were drooling over a man,” I chuckled. “But it all ended after he said he wasn't ready to be with a weak witch,” her expression quickly grew gloomy. My smile slowly vanished as I grabbed her, patting her back softly. I could clearly relate to the feeling and think that I was the one who made her come up with such a touching topic. “I'm so sorry,” I said. “It's alright. I clearly can't be saddened about it anymore. Back then, I felt I couldn't survive,” she wore her smile quickly, beaming once again. “I guess you're stronger than me anyway,” I replied. “I won't say that.” “I just need you to change your mind on this your…decision,” she wore a sight of utmost plea on her face. “Just cut it! You're not getting me to change my mind,” I frowned, moving away from her immediately. “You're such a stubborn lady,” she slammed her hand against her forehead, exhaling heavily. “I'll figure out my reason…I'll figure out my drive during the journey. Besides, we've started, and there's no going back for me,” I replied firmly. “It seems you have no other choice but to play along with you,” she replied, taking a deep breath as she lay on the bed softly. ***** The c**k crowed, forcing my eyes open with its loud crow. I yawned, my eyes flickering open to the rising of the sun over my face through the open window. I moved my arm across the bed, but my heart skipped a beat, forcing me to jerk up from the bed hurriedly. “Celine!” I yelled, my eyes darting around the room. “Jeez! Just keep your voice low,” she cautioned, walking into the room gently. “Let's continue our journey. We can ask the villagers if they have a clue of where I could find a strong wizard,” I said, packing up our luggage hurriedly. Taking a deep breath, Celine joined in, packing up and following me to leave the room. “You've not said a word to me since we left the hotel,” I noticed her cold and hazy expression. “I'm doing great. I'm just finding it hard to allow you to do what you're doing,” she replied firmly. I sighed, taking a deep breath as I grabbed her hand. “Just trust me,” I urged, letting out a soft and yet contagious smile. In no time, the smile appeared on her face as well, causing me to feel some certain flow of ease through my nerves. “Good day, sir. Hello, sir,” I beckoned, walking closer to an old man who was taking a slow walk through the city. He stopped, offering me his undivided attention. “I'm so sorry to disturb you, sir. I want to ask you a question,” I said softly. “Go on. I'm in a bit of a hurry,” he replied softly, glaring at me keenly. “I'm looking for a strong wizard in this town,” I revealed. His eyes widened. His hands clutching tightly onto his walking stick. “What did you just say?” He asked for clarity. I repeated myself again. This time, he gasped, ignoring me as he walked immediately. I hurriedly made an attempt to follow after him. But Celine was swift enough to make me stop. Suddenly, we got ambushed again in the crowd of the city. Their scents were familiar, and they came attacking me again, leaving Celine. Defending myself with the help of Celine, we were both able to get away from them a second time. It finally dawned on me at this moment, that the attacks were no coincidence. I averted my gaze towards Celine who already had hers locked onto me. “Are you ready to listen to me?” Celine asked, breathing heavily as we rested our backs under a shade. Pondering for a while, my expression went pale and I turned towards her, nodding softly in positive affirmation. Celine smiled, rubbing my hand gently in her palm.
