Chapter 3 Give You a Wake-Up Call!

897 Words
Slap! Chloe didn't hesitate. Her hand flew across Lisa's face with a sharp, resounding slap. Lisa stared at her in utter disbelief. "Did you just hit me?" "I didn't just hit you. I'm giving you a wake-up call!" Chloe snapped, grabbing a nearby bottle of wine and pouring it over Lisa's head without a second thought. Since marrying Liam, Chloe had always treated Lisa with kindness. But no matter what Chloe did, Lisa never appreciated it. Instead, she regularly insulted her and, on occasion, even humiliated her in public. For the longest time, Chloe tolerated it for Liam's sake. But now that she no longer cared about Liam, she had no reason to endure this a***e any longer. The entire bottle of wine soaked Lisa, leaving her standing there like a drenched cat, stunned and speechless. Lisa had always despised Chloe and bullied her without fear of retaliation. She never imagined Chloe would fight back, let alone humiliate her like this in front of everyone. At that moment, Liam and Violet rushed over. Violet immediately began dabbing at Lisa's hair with her jacket. "What the hell are you doing, Chloe?" Liam demanded angrily. Chloe's gaze was icy. "Didn't you see? She insulted me first and even hit me!" Violet chimed in, trying to mediate. "Lisa is still young. Even if she went too far, you should try to be more understanding." Chloe raised her eyebrows. "Young? She's a nineteen-year-old baby!" Violet froze, momentarily at a loss for words. Her eyes darted to Liam for support. "Liam, was it wrong for me to speak up?" Patting Violet's shoulder, Liam turned to Chloe, his voice sharp. "It's no wonder Lisa said those things. You've been out here behaving inappropriately. We're not even divorced yet, and here you are, messing around with other men!" For a moment, Chloe stayed silent, and Liam assumed she was reflecting on her behavior. But to his surprise, she smiled coldly. "Since we're still married," she said, her voice calm and cutting, "doesn't that make her the mistress? You can parade your little fling around, but I can't even dance with someone?" Chloe added, her words laced with sarcasm. "And here you are confronting me. Aren't you worried about your precious girlfriend making headlines?" Standing there in a striking red dress, Chloe radiated confidence. Her bold outfit and composed demeanor drew the attention of everyone in the bar, effortlessly making her the center of attention. Her casual tone, as though offering a stranger friendly advice, made her words hit harder. For a moment, Liam's face turned green with anger. Violet's eyes filled with tears. "But I met Liam first!" she protested, her voice trembling. Chloe laughed. "True, you met him first. And then you dumped him." Violet's face flushed with embarrassment. Even Liam's expression darkened. Though he tried to bury it, Violet's betrayal still stung. Lisa, eager to defend Violet, stepped forward and shielded her. "You've said enough! Violet must have had her reasons!" "Chloe Edwards, you shameless woman!" Lisa spat, her hand rising again. "If I don't beat you senseless today, I'm not a Parker!" Before Lisa could strike, Emily grabbed her wrist. "You think you can lay a finger on my friend?" Emily's tone was icy, her grip firm. Lisa faltered. "Emily… Carter?" Emily was from one of Lynelle City's four major families. While her family ranked last among the four, she was still not someone Lisa could afford to offend. Chloe glanced at Lisa with disdain and said to Emily, "Throw her out." "With pleasure," Emily replied cheerfully, clearly enjoying herself. At Emily's signal, two men in black suits appeared and promptly escorted Lisa out of the bar. Liam and Violet had no choice but to follow her. After all the chaos, Chloe lost the mood to continue enjoying the night. She was about to leave when a masked man grabbed her wrist. His deep, magnetic voice stopped her. "Don't you want to know who I am?" Chloe frowned, sensing danger. Trying to remain calm, she tossed her hair and replied, "Not really…" Before she could finish her sentence, the man removed his mask. The moment Chloe saw his face, her eyes widened in shock, and she froze. "You… Uncle…" Emily, clueless about Chloe's sudden change, asked, "What's wrong, Chloe?" It wasn't just any man. It was Lucas Bennett, one of the city's most powerful figures and Liam's uncle. For someone as bold as Chloe, Emily couldn't understand why she'd suddenly shrink back. Lucas smirked, his deep gaze filled with amusement. "What's the matter? Can't bring yourself to say 'Uncle'?" They had met briefly at Chloe and Liam's wedding, but he hadn't paid her much attention back then. Now, seeing her again in such a bold and spirited manner was… interesting. Chloe's face turned beet red. She had randomly picked a man to dance with, only to discover it was Liam's uncle! The realization that she had flirted with him made her want to dig a hole and disappear. "I… I think I've had too much to drink," Chloe stammered, leaning on Emily. "Let's go." Understanding instantly, Emily smiled politely at Lucas. "Sorry, Mr. Bennett. Chloe's had a bit too much. We'll be leaving now." With that, the two women hurried out of the bar, leaving Lucas behind. Watching them leave, Lucas adjusted his mask and smiled to himself. "Interesting," he murmured.
