Smoke curled in the air as Chloe coughed softly. Lucas quickly stubbed out his cigarette and tossed the entire pack into the trash.
Lucas said, "Nova's sister was Alice Walker. We really did grow up together."
Chloe stared down at her feet, kicking at the ground. "You and Alice had Brian together, so you must have loved her deeply."
"No, I didn't."
Lucas's tone was calm, but there was a coldness in his voice that made it clear he meant what he said.
Chloe snapped her head up to look at him. "But you're not the type to be so casual about things."
