Chapter thirty one

Jordan’s POV Adrian's smirk was what snapped the string. Fists clenched tight, anger rushed through my veins as I rushed towards Adrian with full adrenaline. My punch landed on his face, blood rushing hot beneath the skin. Elara's voice echoed loudly, trying to reduce the tension. Her words drowned beneath the thudding noise. Surprisingly, Adrian did not retaliate. When the first punch landed on his jaw, he laughed and that made it worse, the anger in me grew even more. Another punch was swung across his face, accompanied by another yet he did not lift a finger. He just stood there, taking it and grinning widely like a maniac. Voices echoed in the hallway, footsteps drew closer. Student's gasped, Elara's voice rang through the noise, pleading for me to stop but the sound was meaningless to me. All of this was not just about Corvin anymore. It was about Elara, rhe way Adrian looked at her, the way he called out her name like she belonged to him. Jealousy kicked in and refused to leave. "STOP NOW!" That was not Elara but the voice sounded strangely familiar. I pulled away from Adrian and to be honest, he looked like a total mess. His entire face was covered in bruises, blood dripping from his mouth, he leaned lazily against the wall. "What in the world happened here?" It was one of the teachers who had spoken. My eyes scanned the entire room, there were other teachers around, accompanied by half the students from the hallway. "I need answers!" Our English teacher said, her eyes settled on me. "H-e..." Adrian struggled to catch his breath. Although, it was obviously a pretence but it seemed like I was the only one who noticed it. "Detention! Three of you." Elara was included, the feeling of regret washed over me, not for punching Adrian though but involving Elara in it. "To my office this minute!" Shooting one last glance at Adrian, I pushed my way through the crowd, heading straight to the office of Mrs Varda. We all arrived there and just like that, we were spending our first period on detention. Detention was quiet. Elara's gaze clung like heat to the right side of my face, the weight was heavy but looking at ber felt even worse. The clock ticked louder than normal. Every second passed by really slow. I could not help but casually sneak glances at Adrian and all he did throughout detention was stare at Elara. Was he doing it to taunt me because if he was, then it was working. My anger was beyond control, all that rang in my head was how to break every single one of his bones after school. The bell eventually rang and detention was over but we were ushered to our classes and Mrs Varda specifically punished me by asking me to clean the music room tomorrow after school. Classes passed by with Elara trailing me from behind. It was like she was trying to stop me from fighting with Adrian. Did she enjoy his presence or was i overreacting? It seemed to me like she did. After the bell for closing hours rang, my eyes spotted Adrian by the parking lot and my footsteps were already rushing towards his direction when Elara yelled. "Jordan, stop!" "Elara do not come close." The warning slipped from my mouth. But she did not stop. Adrian was still by the edge of the parking lot, his eyes lingered at my direction as if he was waiting for me to attack again. "Listen to me! Gabriel Cross is watching us." Halting in my steps, my head turned slightly and she was right. Standing not so far, arms folded and that same unreadable look etched on his face. Gabriel Cross waved at me when he caught my eyes lingering. Looks like the fight would have to wait. Gritting my teeth in anger, my steps slowly reversed as I walked away but nothing changed, Elara followed me from behind. "What is going on with you?" Her voice came sharp. "Why are you ignoring me?" The frustration grew in her tone. I had hoped the walk back home would be silent but here Elara was, trying to force the truth from my mouth. I did not stop walking and neither did Elara. We got to the front of the house and I could no longer tolerate the questions she kept throwing at me. Spinning around too fast, words slipped out before reason could catch up. "Are you playing dumb? Is it not obvious? I am jealous Elara! That is what this is!" Her mouth opened and a look of surprise grew on her face. Elara looked like she had a lot to say to me but her mother's voice suddenly echoed from their doorway. "Elara!" Elara casted one last glance at me and just like that, she was gone. Muttering a cuss under my breath and slowly stepping into the house, the door slammed shut behind me. At the window, mum stood, watching. She had seen it all. "What were you doing with Elara?" The question was sharp. Rolling my eyes, I stood by the stairway. "Does that even matter?" "Jordan, look what happened to your brother! Adrian should be your main focus! Not her." Mum was now raising her voice at me. "Yeah and I swear on my life that I will make Adrian regret the day he chose to get on my nerves!" "I heard about the fight." She paused to run a hand through her hair in what looked like frustration. "Jordan, you are not thinking things through." She said. What was left to think about? Elara was hearing Adrian's voice and that was practically the highlight of my problems. Wait, Elara was hearing Adrian's voice... Gulping a lump down my throat, it suddenly clicked to me that there was an instance I had not considered. One that I feared might be the reason why Elara was able to hear Adrian. "Tell me the truth.." my voice was rough and low. "Could it be possible for Elara to have.....two mates?"
