The Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison had been the home of Olamide Togornu for the past eight years. He was sentenced in August 1985 to eighteen years in prison with hard labour by the Failed Banks Tribunal. He had had a promising career as the branch manager of the New Era Bank at Badagry and at the age of forty-five, he was at the peak of his career.
