I walk outside and already see my sister looking beautiful as ever waiting at my car. She doesn’t even need all the makeup she puts on her face but she’s literally obsessed with it. I bet you anything she’s going to drag me into Sephora for the millionth time. Last time she did, I had to wait three hours for her to try on every perfume, go through every eyeshadow palette, and get a random makeover. That totally sucked. I’m perfectly fine going to Walmart or Target to get my makeup. Spending over $30.00 on a lipgloss is beyond ridiculous. “Sissy, it wouldn’t hurt you to put on a cute little dress once in a while you know. You never know when you’ll find somebody that makes your heart skip beats.” She gave me a wink and waited for me to unlock the car door and gracefully sat in the passenger seat. Of course the first thing she does after putting her seat belt on is checking how her makeup looks in the mirror. I swear she could look at herself for hours and never grow bored. “Alright, let’s go on to the Mall. For the last time though, please stop trying to rush me into dating. That’s the last thing on my mind. Ever.” “Haha, yeah, that’s what you want me to think. We all know you’re only like this because you’ve never even kissed a guy. Remember your last crush?” “Ugh, Elena, I really don’t want to even think about that.” I love my sister, but she pulls this card on me every single time. It almost feels as she wants to humiliate me. Every time the flashback crosses my mind I immediately feel my cheeks turning hot and bright red. It was the 10th grade. I had a crush on the new guy. Let’s be real though, almost every girl swooned over him. Dark chocolate brown eyes, beautiful black curly hair that went to his chin, tall, muscular but still slim. He was a total babe. When I saw him walk through the schools entrance for the first time, I bumped the locker next to mine which knocked a girl down on the floor and then I tripped on my own books that I didn’t even realize I dropped. To make matters worse, I landed in the splits and my pants ripped right in the freaking crotch exposing my plain boring underwear. Everybody laughed at me, including Mr. Hunk. Everybody called me granny panties for months. The memory still haunts me to this day. “Oh, I see sissy, you got lost into memory lane again. One day you’ll look back and laugh about that day.” “Mmm, I highly doubt that. You only found it funny because it happened to me and not you. Anyways, we’re at the mall so let’s just drop this conversation before I end up with a migraine.” Elena grinned while twirling her beautiful long hair. “Whatever, sissy.” We arrive at the mall. It is one of the biggest malls we have around here. I get out of my car and lock the door. You can never be too safe. I walk into the Mall and the first thing I smell is the delicious bakery this mall has. I pull my sisters hand who is heading in the opposite direction and hear her let out a little yelp. She dragged me here, so she can deal with going to the bakery with me. I look at all my options of cakes, muffins, brownies, fudge, and all kinds of other delicious things. I stuff my face with one of each and I hear a man chucking at me. I turn around with frosting all over my lips and see the most handsome man I’ve ever laid my eyes on. His eyes were ice blue, his hair was down to his shoulders and black. He was pale, but not too pale. His muscles peeking out of his tight black tee shirt. His jaw structure manly but gentle. A clean shave. Ugh, he was an absolute delight to look at. I froze in place staring at this gorgeous man for what felt like decades. Dark and mysterious yet alluring. It felt like nobody else was in this mall but him and I. “Uh, Rayna? Earth to Rayna!” “Hm?! Oh.” I turn around and see my sister looking at me like I was absolutely insane. “Rayna, you’re scaring me. What happened just now? You froze and looked like you saw a ghost!” Elena stepped back from me with her eyes a little widened like I was a freak. “I don’t know. I..uh..I.” I turned around again to see the guy that left me starstruck but he was gone. “Didn’t you see that guy sitting there?” “Sissy, what guy? You’re kind of freaking me out. I’m going to go on ahead and check out new inventory at Sephora. Come find me when you’re not being a freak. Toodles!” My sister ran off with her high heels echoing behind her. I look outside the bakery and see no sign of this handsome stranger. He couldn’t of gone too far within a minute right? I decide I need some fresh air and walk outside. “Rayna. You’ll see me again. Don’t you worry.” I heard a little bit of a manic cackle and I turn around and see nobody in sight. It almost sounded like a whisper in my ear but nobody was there. I feel goosebumps on my arms along with all my hairs sticking straight up. How did I go from starstruck one minute to feeling super uneasy the next? I don’t know what’s going on today, but somehow I feel like this is only the beginning.
