Party

"Why are you such a brat?!" I was getting frustrated with this girl. I walked upstairs to see her still applying her make up. She didn't see me so I walked up to her and snatched the mascara out of her hand. She looked at me in disbelief and glared at me. I mean come on! Who f*****g takes three hours to put on make up. "I don't even know why I aloud you to wear make up in the first place." I said mainly to myself. She sighed as she checked herself in the mirror one last time and stood up and walked away from her vanity set. "Because I am down there a teenager and I need to look the part." I rolled my eyes as I sat the mascara down and glared at her. We are about five minutes late already and she isn't even dressed. "Marie! You are freaking 5! You still have 12 more years until you are considered a teenager. So cut the crap and lets go!" There was a little silence until she quickly threw a pillow at me. My eyes opened wide as I opened my mouth. She started laughing as I threw it back at her. I swear sometimes this girl can make me go nuts, but I love her. "Hurry the hell up." I said as I turned around and walked out of her room and downstairs. Marie and I are very close. I know I might seem mean but I'm really not. We have this relationship where were we both act like we can't stand one another but in real life, neither of us can stand to spend a day without each other. I know I swear at her sometimes but for some reason she loves it and laughs everytime when I do. But I try and make sure its not a lot, but I raised her right and she knows what she's not supposed to say. I sat down on the kitchen stool and sighed as I grabbed my drink and put it to my lips. My friend is hosting a dinner party and she invited Marie and I. Of course I didn't want to go but Marie did because she wanted to show off how mature she can be and look. I will admit, she does a great job at that. People always tell me especially her teachers that she is a very bright girl for her age and has a bright future ahead of her. All I do is nodded and thank them because they don't see the devil that I see. Marie can act all polite and charming but all that is bullshit. She's a little devil who likes to mess with me. I looked up when I heard feet stomping against the wooden floor. I looked up and saw Marie in a white dress that was fluffy at the bottom and had diamonds making a design at the top. I had on something similar but my was skin tight that went all the way down to the floor. "Why do you take so long to get ready?" I asked as I grabbed my car keys and coat. "I get it from you mother." She said as she also grabbed her coat. I rolled my eyes as we both laughed and I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and made our way outside. The cold air hit me as it blew my dark brown hair every where. Marie got into the car and so did I. I moved to London when Marie was a baby. It was hard on me because not only did I have a infant with me but I also moved to a whole nother country. I was lost for about a week and I barely had any money. One day when I was at a coffee shop I met this woman. She was a little old than me at the time and way more mature (as what I thought) but she was friendly. She helped me look for a job and aloud Marie and I to stay with her. Her name was Georgina and she was my life safer. After about a few months I found a perfect job as a designer. I was a little against it at first because it didn't really seem like a job but after a few weeks I fell in love with it. As months went by people started to notice my work and bought them. I design clothes, jewelry, and even photos. I always did love making memory books. After a year my business sky rocketed. I ended up buying a building and started my work. My store is open to everyone and they can even ask for costume designs. I ended up moving out of Georginas house and bought my own. She didn't want me to move out but she understood why. I bought a house that was pretty great. It had four bedrooms, three bathrooms, screening room, kitchen, living room, dining room, pool, and a huge as back yard. And as Marie got older she started to realize how amazing she is. She always had her head in a book which surprised the hell out of me but her glasses made her look even cuter. But that all ended when I decided to let her play with make up. Now she is always in it and I feel like her appearance is the only damn thing she cares about. I didn't mind as much because she is my baby girl and I love her to death. I pulled up to the big as building that had cara surrounding it. Lucky I had my own personal parking space so I didn't have to worry about it. Maire and I got out of my car and walked into the building. There were people everywhere and within seconds I was ready to go home. Marie squeezed my hand making me look down at her and smile. She doesn't exactly enjoy big places that have a lot of people in them. I made sure my grip was tight as I led us through the crowd. It took me about a minute until I finally found her, and once she saw me she smiled. "Hey May. Wondered when you were going to show up." I chuckled as I let go of Maries hand and hugged her. "Hey Georgina. And sorry, you know how this one is." I said gesturing to the little girl that was glaring at me. "Oh leave her alone. Wassup girl." Marie smiled as she hugged Georgina. Her and Marie have become very close to each other considering Georgina had been in her life since she was down there born. "Hey Gina. How you been?" Gina sighed as she took a drink out of the glass that was in her hand. "The usual. Bored and tired from work. But after today I should be getting some rest." She smiled at Marie as she looked back at me. "My boss has been burning everyone's asses off about this for the past three months." I nodded my head. Gina works for a fashion company and I also associate with them some times. But I have never met their boss. Apparently she is some mean woman who gives zero f***s about no one but herself. Gina told me she did used to be this sweet person but one day she started to seem depressed and as time went on she just full out went all bitchy. And since then has always been that way. "Well considering tomorrow is Saturday I was hoping me, you, and Marie could have a family day." Gina smiled widely and nodded her head. Marie jumped into her hands and hugged her. Our family days are always the best. We got to the park, prank people, watch a movie outside, and mostly likely build a tent. "Man, now I definitely can't wait till this is over." I chuckled as we all went to go find a table that was near the stage. We weren't exactly in front but nearly the edge of it so Gina could walk up the stairs when she had to talk. Gina I guess was basically her bosses side partner. They weren't the bestest of friends cause again, her boss is a ass, but her boss does depend on her for everything. “And you must be the famous Madelyn Cooper.” I turned my head to see a man with black slick hair wearing a casual suit. I smiled at him and shook his hand. “You are indeed correct. And who are you if I may ask?” He smiled but didn’t get a chance to say anything because Gina cut in. “This is Jay, the guy I was telling you about.” I made a ‘o’ shape with my mouth and nodded. Jay looked at Gina and glared at her. She just smiled and turned back towards the stage. “What exactly has she told you about me.” He asked. I chuckled as I said nothing but good things. He didn’t say anything back but instead just nodded. I guess he thought I was lying because Gina never says anything good about someone. The party went on with me talking to a few people but mainly just staying at my seat. Thankfully some other people brought their kids so Marie did make a lot of friends within a short period of time. Right now I was watching her from across the room talking to another girl when someone tapped on my shoulder. I turned around and was met with a pretty blonde. Blondes aren’t really my type but she was pretty. She was wearing a dress similar to mine but it was red. “Hey, I’m sorry to bother you, but I just love your dress and just had to come over and introduce myself.” I smiled at the woman. “Well thank you. I actually made it myself. I’m Madelyn.” I extended my hand. After about five seconds of staring at my face, realization hit her. “Oh my god, your Madelyn Cooper.” I put my head down and smiled to myself. “Yes, that would be me.” She hit herself lightly against her head and rolled her eyes. “Of course you designed that dress, it’s beautiful. Anyways, my name is Selena, I am one of the people who work for Ms. Gordinez.” I just smiled and shook my head, mainly because I don’t know who the hell that is. “That's the person who runs all of this.” I nodded my head in understanding. We let go of hands and went our separate ways. Within five more minutes I was ready to leave. There was really no reason to be here other than to support the people who give me money, but other than that, I should be in bed eating pizza right now. Just as I was about to go grab my purse someone went onto stage and told everyone to sit down because we were getting ready to start. I went to go find Marie and led her back to the table to find Gina standing back up. She told me that she was the first one to go up stage and give a presentation. I nodded my head and made Marie sit in front of me. After another five minutes Gina finally made her way onto the stage. “Hello everyone, I would like to thank you all for coming out and celebrating with us on how big the company has grown.” She stopped talking as everyone applauded. She started thanking people who have sponsored the company and gave money and all that stuff. “And lastly I would like to thank someone who I have no doubt most of you know, my best friend, Madelyn Cooper.” I stood and waved at everyone as they all cheered. Just as I was about to sit down someone walked into the building and I swear for a minute I knew who it was, but before I could get a look Marie pulled me back down. “How much longer?” She whined. I chuckled as I brought her closer to me and told her we are not leaving for a while. She groaned at his causing me to giggle. Gina talked for like ten minutes straight and honestly I was about five from walking out that door. When she finally finished everyone applauded as the next person came up on stage. Gina sat down behind me and patted me on the shoulder. “I don’t think you could’ve looked bored more.” I chuckled as I turned my attention back to the stage. Four more people went up until someone finally introduced the boss. At this I sat up straight and glued my eyes to the stage. Everyone started loudly clapping as heels rang against the wooden floor. I looked down at my watch to see it was already past midnight. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen.” More like a good morning. I didn’t say that out loud because I swear that voice sounded so familiar. I looked back up at the stage to see a beautiful woman who was wearing a suit with black heels on. She has on a golden watch and a diamond necklace. Her hair was black and reached all the way down to her shoulders. I couldn’t exactly see her face but something was familiar about her. “As everyone said I would like to thank all of you for coming, you have no idea how much this means to me. Years ago my father started this company, whenever my mother had me he was thrilled to share his legacy with someone. Everyday he would show me different clothes and sketches that had beautiful dresses and suits on them. And from that day forward I knew I was ready to start working. When my father passed I was devastated. I took some time off and-“ she paused for a minute as if she was thinking. She kind of looked sad but quickly shook it off. “When I came back I felt better.” Gina snickered behind me. “Yeah right, when she came back she was a total bitch.” I chuckled as I turned back towards the stage. “I worked hard and I became better. And I have everyone in this room to thank.” She paused, everyone started cheering and her eyes scanned the room. At that moment I knew why she looked so familiar. Her eyes landed on mine and for a split second I saw something in someone I haven’t seen for half a decade. Our eyes never disconnected as Marie started to tap my knee. I broke eye contact with her and looked at Marie. “Why is that woman staring at you.” Gina then asked the same thing but instead of answering I grabbed Maries hand and made her stand up. Gina asked where I was going and I just told her it was past Maries bedtime. Marie then complained that it was Friday but I ignored her as I pulled her with me to get our coats. Once she had hers on I looked back at the stage to still see her staring at me in shock. I gave her one last look as I put on my jacket and took Marie's hand in mine and walked out the door. What is Layla doing here?
