_Chapter 2: ********* She stepped out of the car and onto the winding driveway, gazing up at the mansion in awe. It was even more imposing than she had imagined, with towering spires and grand stone façades. A gentle hand on her elbow guided her towards the entrance, where a warm smile awaited. "Welcome, dear," said the elderly servant, her eyes twinkling. "I'm Mrs. Jenkins. I'll be showing you to your room." As they walked through the opulent halls, Mrs. Jenkins chatted about the history of the mansion, pointing out priceless artwork and antique furnishings. She seemed kind and genuinely warm, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in her presence. Finally, they arrived at a beautiful room, decorated in soft pastels and plush furnishings. A stunning chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over the space. "This is your room, dear," Mrs. Jenkins said, smiling. "I hope you'll be comfortable here." As she looked around, she noticed a photo on the dresser. It was an old picture of Shaun, looking young and carefree, with Mrs. Jenkins by his side. "Mrs. Jenkins, how long have you known Shaun?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her. The old servant's expression softened. "Oh, dear, I've known him since he was a boy. I raised him, in a way. His parents were...distant, and I was his nanny, his confidante. He's a good man, deep down, but arrogance and power can corrupt even the best of us." She looked at Mrs. Jenkins in surprise. "You don't seem to fear him," she said. Mrs. Jenkins chuckled. "Oh, dear, I'm too old to fear anyone. Besides, Shaun respects me. I'm one of the few people who can see past his façade." As Mrs. Jenkins left, she couldn't help but wonder about Shaun's past, and the events that had shaped him into the man he was today. As she settled into her new room, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. She looked around, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Shrugging it off, she began to unpack her bags. Just as she was putting away her last dress, there was a knock at the door. "Come in," she said, expecting Mrs. Jenkins with perhaps some refreshments. But to her surprise, it was Shaun himself who entered. He looked around the room, his eyes lingering on the photo of him and Mrs. Jenkins. "I see you've met our beloved housekeeper," he said, a hint of a smile on his face. "Yes, she's very kind," she replied, trying to sound calm. Shaun nodded. "Yes, she is. One of the few people who truly understands me." He walked closer to her, his eyes locked on hers. "I must say, I'm impressed. You're adapting well to your new surroundings." She felt a shiver run down her spine as he reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I try my best," she said, trying to sound steady. Shaun's smile grew wider. "I think you'll find that I'm a fair employer. As long as you do what I say, of course." She looked at him with disgust, her eyes narrowing. "Don't touch me," she spat, her voice venomous. Shaun's smile faltered, and for a moment, she saw a flash of anger in his eyes. But then, his expression smoothed out, and he chuckled. "Feisty, I like that," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "But let's get one thing straight - you're mine now. And you'll do what I say, when I say it." She felt a surge of revulsion at his words, and she knew she had to keep her distance. "I'll do what I have to do," she said, her voice cold. "But don't think for a second that I'll ever submit to you willingly." Shaun's eyes glinted with amusement. "Oh, I'm counting on it," he said. "Your spirit is what makes you so... appealing." She turned away, unable to bear the sight of him anymore. "Get out," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Shaun laughed, the sound sending shivers down her spine. "Until later, my dear," he said, and with that, he left the room. As the door closed behind him, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. But she knew it was only temporary. She was trapped in this mansion, at the mercy of a man who seemed to take pleasure in her misery. SHAUN: ********* I stepped into the dimly lit room, the shadows swallowing me whole. I couldn't help but think of her - Chanel. I had seen her for the first time months ago, in her father's dingy shop. She was like a ray of sunshine in a world of darkness. I was immediately drawn to her, but I didn't know how to process my emotions. I had never loved before. I didn't think I deserved to. But I couldn't deny the way I felt. I wanted her for myself. I wanted to take her away from that dirty, old shop and give her the life she deserved. I wanted her to be happy. I walked further into the room, my footsteps echoing off the walls. I had never felt this way about anyone before. I was a sinner, a man who had made his fortune through ruthless means. I didn't think I was capable of love. But Chanel had changed that. She had awakened something within me, something I thought was long dead. I stopped in front of a large window, staring out into the night. I knew I had to be careful. I couldn't let my feelings cloud my judgment. I had to keep my eyes on the prize. But as I thought of Chanel, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I had taken her from her father, from the only life she knew. I had brought her here, to this mansion, and I wasn't sure if she would ever forgive me. I turned away from the window, my mind racing with thoughts of her. I knew I had to make her happy, no matter the cost. I would do anything to keep her by my side. I knew I had lied to her about her younger brother. I had made sure he was sent to a private boarding school, far away from the reach of her father's gambling habits. I knew if I had told her the truth, she would have left me, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing her. But it wasn't just that. I had also kept the truth about her father's deal with me a secret. He had signed a contract, selling her to me in exchange for a large sum of money. He had needed it to pay off his debts, and I had needed...her. I hated his gambling habits, the way he had squandered his family's fortune on meaningless games of chance. And I knew that if Chanel stayed with him, she would have been dragged down too. So I had made the deal, knowing it was wrong, but convincing myself it was for her own good. I would keep her safe, give her the life she deserved, and keep her far away from her father's toxic influence. But the weight of my secrets was crushing me. I knew I couldn't keep them hidden forever. Eventually, Chanel would find out the truth, and when she did...I wasn't sure if she would ever forgive me. CHANEL: ******* I pushed open the door, expecting to find Shaun fully dressed, but instead, I was met with a sight that made my heart skip a beat. He was standing in front of the mirror, a towel draped casually around his waist, his toned abs on full display. I felt a flush rise to my cheeks as I couldn't help but stare. He was handsome, I had noticed that before, but seeing him like this...it was different. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the contours of his body, the way the towel hugged his hips. But then I remembered why I was here, why I was trapped in this mansion with him. I bought my gaze back up to his face, trying to ignore the flutter in my chest. "What are you doing?" I asked, trying to sound calm. Shaun raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "Just getting cleaned up," he said, his voice low and husky. I felt another wave of heat wash over me, and I knew I needed to get out of there, fast. "I...I was just looking for a book," I stammered, trying to come up with an excuse. Shaun chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're not going to find any books in here," he said, his gaze roving over me. I felt like he could see right through me, like he knew exactly what I was thinking. I turned to leave, but his voice stopped me. "Chanel?" I turned back, my heart pounding in my chest. "Yes?" Shaun's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious. "We need to talk." ***** Shaun's grip on my wrist was like a vice as he dragged me to my room. I stumbled after him, trying to keep up with his long strides. He still only wore a towel, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease at the sight of his almost-naked body. He flung open the door to my room and pulled me inside, locking it behind us. Then, he turned to face me, his eyes blazing with anger. "You think you can just defy me at every turn?" he growled, his voice low and menacing. "You think you can just do whatever you want, whenever you want?" I tried to shake my head, but he was still gripping my wrist, holding me in place. "There are places you should be, Chanel," he snarled. "Places you should be seen. And my room, and the kitchen are excluded. You'll be expected to join me in the living areas, and you'll be expected to behave." I felt a surge of fear at his words. What did he mean? What did he want from me? "Let me go," I demanded, trying to pull my wrist free. But Shaun just laughed, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, Chanel," he said. "You're not going anywhere." And with that, he pulled me closer, his face inches from mine. I tried to struggle, but Shaun's grip was too strong. He pulled me closer, his eyes burning with intensity. "You're mine now, Chanel," he whispered, his breath hot against my ear. "And you'll do what I say." I felt a shiver run down my spine as he released my wrist, only to wrap his arms around me, pulling me into a tight embrace. "Let me go," I demanded, trying to push him away. But Shaun just laughed, his lips brushing against my neck. "Oh, Chanel," he said. "You're not going anywhere." I felt a wave of panic wash over me as he held me close, his body pressed against mine. And then, just as suddenly as he had grabbed me, he released me, stepping back with a smirk on his face. "Get ready for dinner," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "We have guests arriving soon." I watched in stunned silence as he turned and walked away, leaving me shaken and confused. What did he want from me? And who were these guests he was talking about? I had a feeling that my life was about to get a lot more complicated.....
