I woke up in a hospital, feeling like I was in a reverie. I was dizzy and had a pulsating headache.
At the edge of the room, one of Marco's men, assigned to guard me, was sitting. Shortly after, the doctor came in to check up on me.
"You have been stressed lately. For your own good, please reduce the amount of stress you put on yourself. You are not sick, so there's no need for you to be kept here for long. You will be discharged tomorrow," the doctor said.
I ate and had a good rest away from the monster I am married to. But I had my own plans too.
When I woke up, it was in the afternoon. I told the guard to switch on the TV for me.
I planned on escaping from the hospital at night. I might not see a golden opportunity like this again.
When it was dark, I confided in one of the nurses that I was planning on running away from the hospital. She refused at first, but later budged after pleading with her.
The nurse told the guard that I needed to perform a radiology test. Upon leaving the ward, I changed into my clothes.
I thanked the nurse and left the hospital through the main gate.
As I left, I breathed a sigh of relief. The only thing that came to my mind was seeing Francis.
I didn't have any cash on me, neither did I have a phone.
I approached a stranger who lent me her cell, which I used to call Francis' number, which I had memorized.
"Hello, who is on the line?" Francis said.
I couldn't hold back my tears as I heard his voice. It was as if I hadn't heard his voice in decades.
"It is me, Amelia," I replied.
"Where have you been? Were you kidnapped? What happened to you?" I could hear him sobbing in the background.
"I was kidnapped. It is a long story. Please come pick me up." I gave him the address of where I was and returned the phone to the owner.
After waiting for more than an hour at the bus station, three black Mercedes Benz pulled up right in front of where I was sitting, to my surprise. Marco and his men got down from the car. I wanted to run, but two of his men chased me and grabbed me.
"Are you out of your mind? Do you want to die?" Marco yelled at me.
He slapped me across the face and I tasted blood in my mouth.
"Someone threatened to kill you just this afternoon, and you are here sitting alone at a bus station. If you no longer value your life, I have some things I want to do with you."
He dragged me into the car and we started going. "I thought I told you not to have any contact with Francis again. If you don't want me to kill him, you should not speak with him again," Marco said, infuriated.
The thought that I had almost seen the love of my life flooded my mind before this demon snatched the moment. I was overwhelmed with sorrow.
When we entered the tunnel road, one of Marco's cars ahead stopped abruptly. The car I and Marco were in almost rammed into the car in front of us.
The men in the car got down, and suddenly we started hearing gunshot sounds. I thought Marco would order the driver to take us away from the scene, but he took out a gun from his coat and the driver brought out a mini machine gun from under the seat. They both went to join the shootout.
"Don't leave the car no matter what," Marco said, c*****g the pistol, and then he left.
I was utterly terrified as I heard different gunshot sounds. I heard some of the men scream when they got shot.
After some minutes of non-stop gunfight, everything died down and became very silent. It was pin-drop silent in the tunnel. I wished and prayed that Marco was one of the victims that got shot.
I can't explain where the courage came from. I decided to check what was going on. It was dark in the tunnel; they had shot out the lights.
As I got out of the car, I walked slowly forward, but to my surprise, I saw a red infrared dot pointing at my head.
"Get down! Stay back!" Marco and Donald shouted unexpectedly, but it was too late for me. I felt a stinging pain on my right shoulder and my arm went numb. I didn't know how I got on the ground.
Everything was pitch black so I couldn't see anything, but I could feel my shoulder bleeding profusely.
"She is shot! Amelia is down," I heard Marco shouting with rage.
I heard footsteps and suddenly a car light came on, and the intensity of the gunshots increased like never before. Someone dragged me into one of the Benzes. Gun rounds were shot at the car, but the car was bulletproof.
The car made a very sharp turn which made me hit my head. The person driving the car must be the best, asshole driver.
The person was driving at an insanely fast speed, and we left the tunnel back into the main road. I could hear police sirens.
"Are you mad? Do you want to die? Put more pressure on the wound or else you will just bleed out and die," Marco said with a surprisingly calm voice.
"I thought I told you to stay in the car. Your stubbornness will cost you your life one day, I swear on my life."
"Welcome to the mafia life of gunshot and money," Marco continued, but this time with a laugh.
When the car stopped, three people rushed to the car immediately and took me into a house. They sedated me and ripped off my clothes. But before I fell asleep, I saw someone who looked like an older version of Marco. He had partly grey hair but the same nose and eyes as Marco.
"What makes your life so valuable to Marco that he abandoned his men at gunpoint to save your sorry ass?" the man said.

When I woke up, there was a bandage on my shoulder. It looked as if my right arm was twice as heavy as my left arm. Then I heard a strange conversation going on in the other room.
"Boss, the guys we interrogated were not sent by Miss Diana," it wasn't Donald, but I recognized that voice.
"Who else is after Amelia? I haven't made enemies in a long time. Why would someone shoot my wife?"
"Your wife? You got married and didn't tell me? Are you out of your mind?" Marco's dad asked, infuriated.
"It's not even been a week, Dad. I was planning to tell you and Grandpa at the family dinner."
"And you had the nerve to bring her to my house to treat."
Everything went silent for a split second.
"Boss, you might want to hear this alone," in Donald's voice.
"No, say it in front of everybody. Let's all hear it together," Marco said.
"I ran the plates of the cars that attacked us and also traced one of them that escaped. I have concrete reasons to believe that it was your brother's men that attacked us," Donald said.
"Dad! Did you hear that? Your son tried to kill my wife."
"What were you expecting? You got married before him so you could take over your grandpa's part of the business, and you think he will sit down and watch his younger brother take over before him," Marco's father said.
"Is that what you will say? Let's get Amelia out of here."
"Don't forget the family dinner on Sunday, boy, and don't do anything stupid. Goodbye," Marco's dad said.
