Chapter 8 The Spinning of Wheels Day dawned across the kingdom of Elis, but it was not with the usual crimson-hued sky that slowly lit the forests and deep rutted fields of that sad land. There was something different in the very air. The winds whispered to the people that the day would be momentous, that shepherds should leave their flocks to come to the edge of the field about the hill of Kronos, that villagers should emerge from their hovels to catch a glimpse of the Olympians whom, the winds teased, were watching all that happened. When people arrived, it was to find the dark tents of King Oinomaos gathered in the field around the hill.
