Chapter 5 Arcadian Idyll The winds howled around the rock face of the mountains, in and among the boughs of the pine-scented trees, their dark heights blotting out the blueness of the sky above. Nearby, the sound of a mountain waterfall could be heard, rough in spring as it cascaded from an unseen height. Persephone had only recently come back from the land of Hades, but already the joy of her godly mother could be seen in the emerald shoots that rose out of the forest floor, and in the soft-faced leaves that graced the boughs of plane trees and the olive groves in the valley far below.
