It took a while to find the outpost. Bess kept ranging out ahead and to either side, trying to locate it while Ron trudged along after her, carrying the still-bound Beverly over his shoulder. Beverly made no complaints, except whenever Ron set her down for a moment and either her bare feet or her bare bottom landed on something painful. Finally, Bess spotted the roof of the place and she led Ron in. It was well into the afternoon when they finally reached the place. She felt hungry, and it looked as if Ron was both hungry and a little tired, so once they reached the edge of the cleared area he put Beverly down on her feet and led her along at the end of a rope leash.
