I stood with Hollance across the street of Zetronics, actually more like what's left of it. Mr. Airest even destroyed Lackman's, so many people were killed this time. I squeezed Hollance's hand, Chief Williams walked over. "How could he have done this. Blown up a company that sells electronics to kids?" I asked.
"Millicent Gronze, I'm gonna need you to come back to the station." He said and grabbed his handcuffs. "Wait what? Why?" I asked. Hollance looked at me. "I can't answer that here, come on." I swallowed. "I didn't do this." I argued. "Millicent your hands, now!" He yelled. I put my hands out. Hollance rubbed my shoulder.
"Use my phone, call my lawyer Hollance." I demanded as Chief Williams walked me towards his cruiser. I got in and sat there staring at Hollance. He was calling someone, I looked down. "What's happening to my life?" I muttered.
Chief Williams got in and drove us away from the building. "Can you tell me yet? It's three days from my birthday you know." I said. "I'm gonna need you to be quiet." He said. I nodded slowly and held in a rush of emotions.
Chief Williams stopped at the police station, he stepped out of the vehicle and spoke with another officer. they pointed at me and nodded to each other. My door opened and Chief Williams helped me out. I was brought into the station.
Everyone was looking at me, I looked at Chief Williams. People shook their heads and mumbled under their breath. I was brought into an interrogation room and hook to the table. "Can I ask what this is for?" I asked. "Millicent Gronze, that's your name right?" Someone walked in with a folder. They were FBI.
"Yes, thats me." I said. "Good. So I'm going to ask you a few questions, is that okay?" He asked. "Sure, but answer me. Why am I in here? I haven't done anything." I said. "There was evidence found that your company has been importing explosives, guns, and suits. Looks a lot like a terrorist attack to us." He said.
"No! We sell electronics. Computers and cell-phones!" I exclaimed. "Have you ever seen a company truck unload? Have you seen wooden crates?" He asked. "No and no! I don't take over the company for another ten years. My parents are not criminals!" I screamed.
"I'm going to need you to calm down." He said. "I want my lawyer." I said. "Look, we can talk about this. I'm not accusing you of anything." I scoffed. "Yeah, yeah you are. I want my lawyer." I said again. He licked his lips and nodded. He stood up and left.
I was left alone for what felt like hours, I wished Hollance was here. He could have been some company while I'm being told my parents are criminals. They wouldn't do this. I thought I knew my parents, but what if it was true, what if they were doing this.
The door opened, Chief Williams and my lawyer. I smiled, but when my lawyer was in, Chief Williams closed the door. "People are pissed, you are being accused of knowing what your parents were doing." She said. "I don't know anything!" I cried.
"My parents couldn't have wanted this for me. I don't understand, why?" I cried and covered my face. "Look we can deal with this, get you out. They have nothing on you, as of right now. They can keep investigating you, they won't find anything. You're innocent of your parents crimes." She said. The door opened and an officer came in and released me.
"What are we gonna do?" I asked and stood up. "Act normal, life goes on." She said. I walked out with her. The press was grouped outside in hordes. Taking pictures, they held microphones, I was what they wanted.
"No. I can't go out there. They'll ruin me, I'm not a criminal." I argued. "It's okay. You don't have to answer. Hollance is waiting." She said and wrapped her arm around mine. "I know who did this. I know who killed my parents." I said. "Darling, that doesn't matter anymore." She said.
"It's Mr. Airest. You met him, our mailman. He doesn't exist, but he does. I know he does, he killed my parents." I said. "We'll figure it out." She said and pulled me along. Outside was Hollance's truck, I knew he was inside, worried as hell. He would want to know what happened.
I yanked away from my lawyer and ran outside. I pushed past people, shoving them out of the way, and covering my face. "Millicent!" Hollance yelled. I ran towards his truck and pulled open the door. I yanked it close and looked at Hollance. He rolled up the window and pulled me over. I cried and hugged him.
"It can't be true Hollance. It's just not." I cried. "I know, I don't believe them, it must have been planted. You'll be okay Milli, I promise." Hollance rocked me as I cried.
Three days later, it was my birthday. I wish I couldn't remember the few days before. Hordes of people no matter where I went. Hollance agreed to have Evanessa pick it all up. The cake, a few gifts, and a new dress. I didn't know what the point was. My life was over, I had no company, my parents were said to be criminals.
Hollance stood in the bathroom with me. Watching as I fixed my hair. "You know, you're allowed to be happy." He said. "No, I was lied to my whole life. Believing my parents actually cared about people. They murdered and blew things up. You saw the article yesterday. They blew up an entire country town." I put my brush down.
"They murdered Mr. Airest's family. No wonder he's pissed off. He blames me for this, I'm going to take over the company, he'll stop at nothing. I'm his last target." I said. Hollance pulled me over and kissed me. "Stop, no one is going to hurt you." He said.
"I wish I could believe you." I said. The door was thrown open, I screamed. "It's just me, jeez." Evanessa said and smiled. I glared at her and she gave me my dress. "Get dressed, we have a party to get to." She said. "It's like twelve people." I said.
"Yeah, enough to dance and laugh. Come on." She said. I rolled my eyes and looked at Hollance. "Do I have to leave?" He asked. "Hardly, help me." I begged and kissed him. He helped me into my dress, I finished my hair and makeup quickly.
"I'll make this the best sweet sixteen when the party's over." He whispered and kissed my neck. I smiled and looked at him. "Come on." I giggled and pulled him out. I could hear music already blaring, people talking, and Hollance put his arm out. "Shall we princess Millicent?" He asked. "I wanted to be a princess, like six years ago." I said.
"Yeah, but you're still a princess to me." He said. I took his arm and walked with him down the stairs. Hollance's siblings clapped, Evanessa, and my six other friends clapped. "Look at you. Still beautiful, even if that smile is forced." Evanessa said. I smiled and got to the bottom.
"Believe me, it's not forced." I said and hugged her. "Come here, we're playing just dance." She pulled me over and I laughed. Hollance stood behind me and took a remote. "This will be fun." I said. Hollance's brothers joined in, we had to use two wiis.
We danced for hours together. We ate dinner, laughed, and joked about everything. We did some board games, and finally it was time for cake. "Okay come over birthday girl, sit down." I was blindfolded and Hollance was walking me around. My butt hit a chair, "Don't fall off." Hollance said. I chuckled and smiled.
"Okay, ready?" He asked. I nodded and he removed the blindfold. The cake in front of me was the one from Cakes, Cupcakes, and Food Amaze. I gasped and stood up. "It's stunning." I said. "I even had them make it your favorite. Chocolate with a layer mousse and chocolate chips. Fresh cherries mixed into the batter, and the outside is all whipped topping." Evanessa said.
I hugged her and squealed. "This is amazing, thank you." Hollance began lighting sixteen small candles. "Make a wish baby." He said. I stared at the candles. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I blew out my candles and dropped to the floor.
I gasped awake. I put a hand to my head, I sat up. I was on my bed. I was wearing a robe, and my b*a and boy shorts underwear. I looked around, my heart raced. I looked next to me and screamed. Mr. Airest was shirtless on my bed. He woke up too, and threw himself off his bed. "Wh… Hollance!" I screamed.
"How are you?" He looked as freaked out as I did. "What did you do." He yelled and grabbed a pen. "What about you? You murdered people I cared about!" I screamed. My parents ran in. "Mom?" I asked. She sighed.
"My goodness I thought you were in trouble. Don't you know better, dad and I are making breakfast." She said and walked out. Mr. Airest looked at me, I was frozen in place. "But she's… dead." Airest and I said in unison. I looked at my dresser, there was a photo framed. Like a plate, but blue, transparent. It had stuff all over, I was too shocked to describe it.
Mr. Airest ran out of the room, I chased him. "Leave them alone you killer, I'll call the cops!" I yelled. I grabbed his head by the head, he screamed, and we both hit the floor. "What is wrong with you two?" My father asked walking over. "Daddy he killed you. Shot up full of bullets." I said. "What are you talking about?" He asked.
"Why would Flynn kill me? I think you had a very vivid bad dream. Now get up off the floor, it's just days from your big day." My father said. Flynn looked at me, I held his wrist, not wanting him to get away. "Let me go." He said and threw me against the wall. I held his wrist. "Why are you doing this to me?" I asked.
"Flynn come sit down." My mother said. He pulled me outside and threw me in the grass. "I know what happened to your town, but that wasn't me! I had nothing to do with that, if I would have known what my parents were doing I would have stopped it!" I yelled and stood up. I tried grabbing him. He backhanded me.
I hit the ground holding my face. My lip was bleeding now. "You can't kill them again! I don't know what's going on, if you help me figure it out, I'll let you take them to the police, please." I begged, he looked at me. "You're a liar, you care too much about them. Whatever you did you’ll pay for." He said and grabbed my hand and pulled me to the garage.
I tried dragging my feet and fighting him, but I couldn't get away. "They are killers, yes I love them, but I can't stand knowing the truth. Flynn I don't want to die. I know that's what you want, I don't know what happened, please." I had tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Flynn, you know you have a meeting to get to! I have a limo waiting for you, you're about to sign the contract of your life!" My mother came out. She looked at me, Flynn clenched his teeth. "Um… what are you guys doing?" She asked. Flynn picked me up and held my waist. He's playing along. "We are… playing. He'll be ready in a few minutes." I said.
"Good, I love the ring Milli. See you love birds later, I'm so happy to be inviting such a great man into the family." Flynn and I looked at my hand, I was wearing an engagement ring. Flynn threw me back on the floor. "Wait!" I screamed when he grabbed a hammer.
"I wished my parents were good, that they didn't die. I wanted to find you, please. I want to help you, I don't want to die for what they did to you. I'll give you the company, I'll move to Asia!" I shouted with my hands extended out. Flynn stared at me, then looked at his hammer.
"I don't want the company, I want it gone. I'll kill you last then." He said and threw the hammer at the wall and walked out. "No! You can't kill people again!" I yelled and ran over to him. I walked in front of him. "Please Flynn, you can destroy the company, I don't care." I put my hand on him.
"You killed my parents, destroyed the company in some other place. If we are stuck here, don't kill my parents, I want them alive." I said. "Hey Millicent!" It was Hollance across the street. I smiled. I waved at him, he looked both ways and started coming over. Flynn grabbed my throat, Hollance stopped.
"Hey! Let her go!" Hollance yelled. There was a car coming. "Holl…" I was cut off. "Stop!" Hollance turned as the car came. I screamed as it hit him, Flynn dropped me to the floor and got into the car next to us. The car slammed on it's brakes, I cried and touched the grass. "Oh god, kid are you okay?" The man asked while getting out of his car.
Hollance was lying lifelessly in the middle of the road. "Hollance!" I screamed. The man looked at me, Flynn drove away. "Millicent what's wrong?" My mother came running over. "Hollance, he's…" I covered my mouth. "Darling, who is Hollance?" She asked. "No, no, no." I looked at Hollance. "He's my boyfriend, mom you have to remember. Flynn killed you, the company sells illegal weapons, your criminals!" I yelled.
"How hard did you hit your head darling?" My mother looked at me with worry. "I'll take you to the doctors." She said. "No! I have to find Flynn." I said and stood up. I looked at Hollance one more time. "Darling!" I ignored my mother and took off running. I had no shoes on, no clothes. I would have to go to Evanessa's house.
I sniffled as I stopped at Evanessa's house, I knocked and waited. She opened the door and smiled. "Hi, who are you?" She asked. I swallowed, "My name is Millicent, I need clothes, and your car." I said. She scoffed. "Yeah, no way." She tried closing the door. "Hollance is dead." I said, she gasped.
"No! You're lying!" I shook my head and pointed down the street. She took off running and I walked in. I ran upstairs, pulled on some jeans and a long sleeve. I tied up my hair, and grabbed some shoes. Something was seriously wrong, and I had to figure out what it was. I wanted my parents good, so I guess their perspective on life changed.
My life was different, in this world, they didn't die, they didn't kill anyone. Flynn and I probably met and got engaged. I'm not with Hollance, because we met when I was thirteen. Evanessa and Hollance are together. I had to find Flynn as soon as possible.
⏳
Flynn rolled down the window of the car, he tossed his ring out in annoyance. He was beyond annoyed and confused. He rolled the window back up and drove towards the company. He stopped, only a few blocks away, he could see the tip of the building, it was back.
He drove around the back of the building and got out of his car. He shoved some of the workers away. Flynn climbed into one of the drop off trucks, he tore open box after box. He found nothing criminal. He threw a laptop box on the floor. Flynn climbed out and got back in his car.
He screamed in his car, started it up, and drove back to the house. He sloppily parked his car and got out. He slammed the door, there were police around someone's body. Mr. Gronze was outside sipping some coffee.
"Hey Mr. Gronze tell me, what is it that you sell?" Flynn asked. Mr. Gronze walked inside with Flynn. "What kind of question is that son? We sell electronics, have for sixteen whole years. It's about time my daughter brought a good man into the family." Mr. Gronze happily walked into his office.
"Other times I would reject to a young marriage, but she needs you." Mr. Gronze patted Flynn's shoulder. He grabbed Mr. Gronze by the neck and slammed him into the wall. "Tell me the truth!" Flynn yelled, he was hardly going to believe Millicent's wish changed everything.
"What the hell is wrong with you!" Mr. Gronze clawed at Flynn's hands, desperately trying to get free. "Electronics. Look at the files." Flynn dropped him and went to the file drawer. Nothing but Electronics sold. In the other place, Mr. Gronze filed the weapons he sold, all for safekeeping. There was nothing criminal about this version.
They were good people, Flynn was engaged to their daughter… the daughter. Millicent did something to this world, how could that possibly have happened. "Look, whatever happened to you and my daughter last night is your business, but there is no use of drugs allowed in this household. She's gone. My daughter has run away." Mr. Gronze looked worried.
"What's your point? I'll find out what happened to those files." Flynn said that as a promise, Mr. Gronze stared at him. "What files Flynn? What is going on with you and my daughter? Why are you asking weird questions?" He asked. Mr. Gronze shook his head.
"I want the files about the bombs you tested!" Flynn yelled and slammed the cabinet close. "You destroyed everything of mine! My family, my home and my town." He yelled.
"Flynn I would never. Your family is safe, they live on Frost Ln. That is barely five minutes away, they are coming for dinner tonight, to celebrate." Flynn stepped back in shock. They're alive. "What did that b***h do?" Flynn muttered, then ran out of the house.
He got back inside his car and thought of all the places Millicent might go. "Friends first, right." Flynn mumbled, he stared at the dead kid in the road. Flynn dove to the first friend he could think of, Evanessa White.
I kept driving until he got to a stop sign, he stared at the sign. Why did everything change?
