THE MISTAKE ~TATE’S POV~ “You look unusually cheerful today,” Owen whispered across the desk. The hum of the classroom lights buzzed above us, drowning out the monotone voice of our history teacher. I pulled my gaze from the blank page in my notebook and forced a small smile. “Let’s just say I had a good night’s rest.” It wasn’t a lie. Not really. The memory of waking up pressed between Mathias and Daxon still remained on my skin, warm and dangerous. Their steady breathing had held me through the night, wrapping me in a safety I had never known before. But when morning came, they had pulled away. Kept their distance. And I couldn’t stop asking myself….did they regret it? Did they think I was too fragile for them? The ache in my chest gave me my answer. I was falling, fast and hard.
