BOND STRENGTHENING

The voice faded, but its effect remained. Everyone in the training yard stood frozen, looking around for the source.
"He's not here physically," Vida said quickly. "It's a projection spell. He's announcing his presence."
"Why?" Mathias demanded.
"Because he wants her scared." Vida looked at me. "Heriberto feeds on fear. He's trying to shake your confidence before the real battle."
"Well, it's working," I muttered.
Mathias pulled me closer. "He's not getting to you. We won't let him."
But I could feel through the bond that he was scared too. We all were.
Marcus Sr. appeared, looking grim. "Get the rescued families inside. Secure the Packhouse. And someone tell me how a warlock is projecting his voice into my territory."
"The wards," Vida realized.
