Chapter Sixty-one: Sinah

. . . . . . (late March) 38.4wks The anticipation is killing me. Us. The whole damn pack has almost completely stopped, waiting for me to go into labor. I am ninety-nine percent sure Lilian has wired the maternity suite to broadcast the delivery to every monitor on campus. The one percentage of doubt is based on the possibility of a power outage right before I deliver. I chuckled and rubbed my stomach; Selene was just as restless as I was. We were sitting on the sofa in the middle of the common room. Just destroying the pack warriors in an impromptu Call of Duty deathmatch. Like seriously, it's just been a s*******r. Lilian is in second place. She's also the instigator. She asked to play and one of the wolves made the mistake of scoffing. She's as bad as an actual werewolf, promptly challenged him to a match, and annihilated him. Then she accused him of going easy on her because she was a girl. Somehow, it developed into teams and, at that point, it was a pride match between the genders. The boys were receiving a decisive lesson in humility as I added two more to the girl's team's kill count, earning angry growls and laughter. It was unfair, really. Almost none of the pack's almost three hundred wolves had any clue their adorable, tiny, super pregnant Luna spent three years in a wheelchair playing video games. /:And now they are learning.:/ Selene hummed happily in my mind. She was as amused by the m******e as I was, she hasn't gotten to officially meet the pack since we've been pregnant the whole time, and we are both sure they are underestimating her size as well. I yawned exaggeratedly as I headshot Kyle's player and he laughed. "I surrender!" Lilian and I laughed triumphantly as the boys' team ceded their defeat with all the drama they could muster, genuflecting and bemoaning their worth. I laughed and tossed my controller on the coffee table. "I'm going outside, maybe I can walk this stubborn kid out of here." Aiden laughed and helped me stand up while Gyam helped Tia to her feet. To no one's surprise, we discovered her to be pregnant two weeks ago when she missed her monthly cycle. Gyam surprised everyone, bouncing and yipping and generally being ridiculous for over an hour across the campus, leaving us both behind with a very understanding Aiden. Selene was humming steadily as our group wandered slowly around the courtyard, Bryce trailing behind. I hummed along softly and felt a sudden tightening across the surface of my abdomen. /:FINALLY!:/ I giggled at her happy bark and Aiden gave me a curious glance. I smiled up at him and put his hand on my stomach just in time for the contraction to stop. His eyes grew huge as he stared at my stomach. "One down, probably a hundred or so more to go, don't get too excited yet." I laughed as he blew out a shaky breath and I slowly started walking again. Selene resumed her happy humming and I joined in. When the next contraction came, I got Gyam and Tia to put their hands on my belly, so they could feel it as it passed. The news that I had started contractions spread like wildfire. I wasn't even up to double digits before the midwife met me during my stroll. "Are they regular or random?" "Selene says regular." She smiled. "Good! About how far apart?" "Selene says seven minutes." "Fabulous! Well, keep walking slowly if you want. Let me know if they speed up or get intense. I'll have them prep the room, come on in whenever you feel like it!" I snickered as she patted Aiden's cheek and walked back toward the medical center. "Take a deep breath now, Daddy." Aiden grinned at me. "Do I really look that bad?" I giggled. "You look like you might faint." He chuckled sheepishly. "I feel like I might." He pulled me close and kissed my forehead. "You are doing all the work and I'm the one with stage fright." Gyam snorted. "Take your shirt off and I'll hand you a dollar." The look on Aiden's face was worth more than the crown jewels. Somewhere between offended, startled, and impressed. He threw his head back and roared with laughter. "Man, it's not the same without the music though." He hummed a club beat and slid up to him seductively, biting his lip and shaking his hips. Bryce laughed and began dancing to match Aiden. Gyam stood stoically as his Alpha and Beta proceeded to act like idiots around him long enough for someone to actually turn some music on. "You're dumbasses." He grinned and shook his head, tossing me a wink when Aiden wasn't looking. I smiled at him in thanks, Selene and I softly hummed through several more contractions while he had distracted the entire pack away from me. I stood slightly off to the side of the group. Tia was holding my hand while Aiden and a growing number of wolves started a dance off. Gyam slipped up behind us and guided us both towards the medical center, where it was strikingly quiet now. I chuckled at the group. Three hundred nervous wolves make for a lot of anxious energy. This was a good distraction for them. I closed my eyes and hummed along with Selene. The song's rhythm was starting to increase slowly, like she was trying to keep time with my contractions. The midwife poked her head out of the building and looked at the crowd in the courtyard. "Luna?" I chuckled softly. "Not ready yet. My mate is busy having a dance contest." She stood beside us and watched the scene, laughing softly. "Well, don't wait for him if you do feel ready, hun. What's your spacing at?" "Four minutes apart." She grinned and rubbed her hands together. "Oooooooo!" She laughed. "On that note, I am going to go scrub up. You get your fanny in here soon!" I grinned and nodded. Lilian ran over to me and squeezed my shoulders in a hug. "Omigodthisissoexciteing!!" I flinched at her squeal, and she giggled. "Sorry. Why didn't you call me?" "Selene has been pretty distracted since we started labor, so I haven't been able to mind-link anyone." I shrugged and she held me at arm's length. "Cellphones, woman. They still exist. How are you so calm?" She nodded towards the group of wolves still goofing off. "Does Aiden even know you're in labor?" I laughed. "They haven't started hurting yet, Selene is taking the pain from me." I rubbed the surface of my abdomen. "I'm trusting her to tell me when I need to go inside. Aiden knows, and yeah, he was starting to freak out." Gyam snorted and Lilian grinned. "I can see Bryce over there; I would have thought he'd have hidden by now. He knows I'm going to try to get him to hold the baby." I giggled and gasped as a contraction came with a dull ache. /:Sorry... I can't block it all anymore.:/ /:Do we need to go inside?:/ /:Not yet... soon.:/ I smiled and brought my fingers to my lips. Gyam and Tia both covered their ears and Lilian grinned as I let loose a piercing whistle, startling the wolves playing in the courtyard. "MIND IF I POP THIS KID OUT, OR DO YOU NEED A FEW MORE MINUTES?" Aiden blushed furiously amid the pack's good-natured laughter, and he jogged over to me sheepishly. "Don't worry, you haven't missed anything exciting." I laced my fingers through his and squeezed a little as another contraction rolled through me, taking my breath away. "Isn't this going fast?" He searched my face worriedly and I pulled him closer so I could kiss him. "Selene isn't worried, and the midwife doesn't seem concerned either." His eyes kept fading to black as he and Rhys nervously struggled for control. Tia giggled, startling him. "Will you act just like this, Gyam?" She turned her big brown eyes up to his dark blue ones and he chuckled self-consciously. "Probably worse, let's face it." I gasped as pain laced iron fingers across my stomach and squeezed. "Oh!" I blinked rapidly in shock. /:Still normal.:/ /:WHAT? f**k!:/ /:Yup.:/ I whimpered softly and took a deep breath as the pain faded, grinning ruefully. "I believe we have made it to the fun part." Aiden put his forehead against my stomach and closed his eyes. I bit my lip and my eyes watered as my mate took a long, trembling breath. "All right, little man, let's do this." He grinned at me when he opened his eyes. His eyes were very dark hunter green, he and Rhys must have joined. /:Selene?:/ /:yeah... we should go in...:/ "Fun time, now, in fact. Shall we?" I let Aiden scoop me up and carry me into the building. I bit his shoulder gently as another contraction took hold of my body. A nurse eagerly led the way to the maternity suite and Aiden set me on the edge of the bed so the midwife could check on my progress. "Dilated to an eight! My Goddess!" She laughed and waved at me. "Get in bed before you have the kid on the floor already!" We laughed and situated me comfortably on the bed. /:Sinah.:/ /:Yes?:/ /:Join with me.:/ A rush of excitement flooded me as I opened my mind to my wolf and our senses combined. Pain washed over us as a contraction hit and we clenched our teeth. It felt like someone was trying to crush us in a vise. The pain faded after a moment and relief flooded us. We took a couple of excited breaths, waiting for the next contraction. It did not disappoint; a white hot pain gripped our abdomen and we growled fiercely. The pain was so intense we didn't even notice the midwife checked us again. "Beautiful! You should feel the urge to push very soon!" Our mate was frozen in shock again and we managed a quick giggle at him before the next contraction rolled through us. We were panting when it finally faded and almost immediately the next one hit, making us yelp reflexively. We tensed against the sudden pain, and it registered somewhere in a primitive part of our mind that it was time to push. Our link expanded suddenly, and we felt our mate join us. Our bodies flexed in tandem as we pushed against the maddening waves of pressure filling us. Raw, primal growls pulled from us as we breathed in unison and tensed with the continuous waves of pressure. A deep moan burst from us as the burning pain snapped to a flood of pleasure. A blatantly grouchy wail filled the air as our son loudly announced his disagreement with his arrival. Cheers and howls erupted all over the campus while the midwife quickly wiped his face clean and held him up to the cameras. She handed us our son and we curled our arms around him, neither of us daring to breathe as the tiny creature huffed and complained angrily. We separated from our wolves as relief washed over us and I twisted my face to look at Aiden. He had climbed onto the bed behind me at some point, his arms wrapped around both of us. His eyes were locked on his son's tiny face as he calmed and dozed abruptly. He brushed his finger along his cheek and chuckled when he fussed. "Already a mama's boy?" He buried his head into my shoulder and took a long deep breath. The midwife quietly shooed everyone out of the room to give us a few minutes alone with our son. I could feel Aiden's hot tears running down my shoulder. He chuckled into my neck. "I have never been so scared in my entire life; a rogue attack would be boring right now." He kissed the dampness off my shoulder. "You are so gorgeous." I giggled as he bit my neck gently. He groaned softly and put his head back down on my shoulder. I smiled while he struggled to calm down. "Thank you." He lifted his head and smiled at our son, dozing contentedly on my breast. "That was amazing. Being with you and Selene like that." He chuckled. "I don't remember what name won." "Does it matter?" I smiled at him as his eyes glistened. "He's Gypsy Moon's first son." He touched his son's cheek softly. "Donovan." . . . . . .
