Chapter Forty-five: Sinah

. . . . . . (mid July) Poor Aiden... He didn't even mean to and managed to create total confusion as soon as we pulled up to Desert Falcon's pack house. We even showed up exactly when we told them we would. But that was the same time the human realtor, who was running late, and Frozen Crescent's anxious Alpha family arrived. Aiden stared at the puzzled group in dismay. I stepped forward and took the realtor's hand, throwing a glance at Lilian, who was thoroughly entertained by Aiden's discomfort. "You are looking for us, this is my assistant, Ms. Roth, I believe you spoke on the phone." The realtor nodded and turned on her business face, indicating the attaché case she was holding. "I have the final paperwork here, Mrs. Soleis." I smiled at her as she dropped the hint to Aiden exactly as I planned. Lilian snapped a picture of his face with her phone when he shifted his stare at me. The realtor smiled warmly and winked at me, then glanced at Lilian, who led her into the packhouse, giggling. Aiden was grinning at me like I was a gourmet dessert and Bryce coughed deliberately. The crowd broke into laughter and chatter. "Mrs. Soleis?" Aiden's arm snuck round my waist, and he whispered in my ear, making me shiver. "Not officially, yet. It was Lilian's idea. She was bummed I didn't get a proper Luna ceremony, so she has been begging me to propose, since it isn't something most wolves really bother with." I realized the group of wolves around us had fallen silent like they were in a theater. Aiden's eyes were dark, and he was breathing like he'd been running when I slowly pulled from his grip and faced him, looking up at him through my lashes. I posed shyly and pulled a slender, dark jeweler's box from my pocket. Not a ring box, one of the long ones you get for bracelets. One of the she-wolves gasped and Aiden froze, looking at the box I was holding. "Aiden Marcus Soleis," I handed him the box with a smile. "Would you do me the honor of making me your wife?" He flipped the top of the box off and stared at its contents for a breathless moment. I waited patiently with a smile, we all watched his eyes grow full black and he dropped the box in favor of pulling me to him. The growl he let out made several people blush, it was heavy with possession, pride, and lust. He claimed my mouth in a searing kiss, the heat of his passion rocketing to my core. My arms flew up to wrap around his neck, and I melted against my mate. Bryce snapped a picture with his phone and the shutter click startled the gathered wolves. Most of the she-wolves began shrieking excitedly and several of the males were cheering as well. Aiden broke the kiss slowly and buried his face in the crook of my neck. He was shaking as he breathed in my scent and the group smiled and led each other into the packhouse. Bryce glanced at Gyam, who sat very deliberately on the ground beside Aiden and I and glowered, slapping his tail on the ground. Bryce and Frozen Crescent's Alpha both nodded in understanding, he would not be separated from me. "how long have you known?" I smiled and nuzzled his neck. "If you mean, when did I take the test? Like four hours." I grinned as he pulled back to look at me. "Lilian bought the test when she bought the protein shakes for me. I had a suspicion while I was annihilating you in Mortal Kombat, and she offered to grab one the next time we stopped. I forgot about it until she handed the test to me this morning while you were still asleep." He smiled wryly. "So, you are saying that I am so bad at video games that you had time to discuss the possibility of you being pregnant over a mind link and I still lost?" "You aren't so bad, but yes, that's basically the short of it." He chuckled and pulled me back into a kiss, one so tender, it was like he was afraid of breaking me. He held me at arm's length and caressed my hair. "Using your abilities is totally safe, right?" I nodded and stroked Gyam's fur. He had tensed as if he had not considered that angle of my safety. "Selene says it's actually beneficial. It increases our fertility in the first place. She thinks I probably conceived while I was recovering from healing the girl in River Talon." He stared at my perfectly flat stomach thoughtfully. "That was two weeks ago. How on earth did you think you were pregnant so fast?" I grinned and could feel Selene laughing again. "Well, most wolves find out when their wolf refuses to let them shift. Selene has been snickering in the back of my mind all weekend but wouldn't tell me why. Of course, I think the non-stop s*x for the last three weeks was the biggest clue. She says she hopes everyone got a good look at her the other night, as apparently, I shifted my last for the next nine months to welcome Gyam." He looked confused. "How soon you wanted pups was pretty much her second question to me." He roared with laughter and clutched me to his chest again. "Sinah Richmond, I would be honored to make you my wife." A deep chuckle rolled through his chest. "Particularly since I imagine the original surprise was that, since Lilian wants you to have a big fancy party, and I'm sure my mothers are in on that too." "Oh, you have no idea. Your mother was so torn between congratulating me for getting your mark and yelling at me for ruining her Luna ball plans." He held me silently for a long time. "I never wanted to be a pack alpha." I stayed silent, he was speaking slowly, as if he was thinking aloud. "I've been dragging my heels and whining my whole life because I didn't want the responsibility of taking care of a pack." His arms tightened around me, and he lowered his head to my shoulder, his voice soft. "I grew up thinking my mate would be the one that was made for me, but I was wrong. I was the one who was made for my mate, without you, I have no purpose." I felt a hot tear run down my shoulder. "Losing you is not an option, and if I have to lead the biggest pack in f*****g history to keep you safe, I swear I will be the best Alpha I can be for you." Our kiss was salty this time, flavored with our tears. . . . . . .
