Chapter Fourteen: Aiden

. . . . . . (early July) Rhys woke me up to let me know we had crossed into River Talon territory. He failed to mention 'in record time'. The moon was still high, the sky was still full dark, and sparkling with stars. How the hell? I looked out the window. "Holy fück, we're home." Bryce made a really weird screechy hissing noise, which startled both girls awake. And of course, both of them made really high-pitched yipe noises. I watched the honor guard around us skitter away from the SUV a few steps, startled. /:Thank you, Rhys. I WOULD have been sad to miss this.:/ /:Anytime.:/ I grinned like an idïot during the next couple minutes of random panic screeching from Bryce and the girls when their yelps scared Bryce and the car started to skid, then Sinah was yelling because we almost hit someone, and Lilian was frozen in a perfect 'WTF?' face. /:Guess what else?:/ I could feel Rhys's grin. /:We also just won the bet that we couldn't sneak up and scare him.:/ /:HA!:/ Oh Rhys, the Goddess gave me the best partner in crime. Thankfully, for everyone, when I said 'home' I was being literal, we had just pulled into the clearing in front of the packhouse. That whole Tex Avery skit played out over about twenty feet of dirt lot. Bryce stopped us by jamming the car into park and letting a couple wolves basically catch it before it rolled. I knew it was so he could get out of the SUV before he involuntarily shifted and hurt someone. He managed to rip the driver's door off in the process of getting clear. /:Aw shït, now we owe White Moon a new car...:/ /:Better than owing Sinah a new Lilian.:/ I nodded as the car stilled and the girls blinked. Sudden laughter startled us again and we all looked out the missing door. Bryce had shifted, and Mir looked like she had been electrocuted. Her tail stuck straight up in the air and every strand of fur on her body stood on end. /:Yeah, he's going to kill us in our sleep.:/ /:Yep.:/ I opened my door and stepped out, glancing around at the collected pack members. I walked towards Alpha Derek with a smile. "Sup bro. I'm beat, gonna hit the hay, see you in the morning!" I folded my hands behind my head and walked to the packhouse as if this were a totally normal situation. I laughed and bolted inside when Bryce hissed at me. "GIGI! BRYCE IS GONNA KILL ME!" I laughed as I vaulted the sofa. If I was going to arrive with confusion, well, I was going to arrive in total mayhem. . . . . . .
