Chapter 3: Hidden Werewolf World

904 Words
Elara didn’t sleep that night, but by the time she finally stepped out of her room the next morning, the estate had already begun to hum with life. Footsteps echoed through the grand hallway, voices whispered in unfamiliar tongues, and the smell of freshly baked bread and roasting meat drifted down from the kitchen. The house was alive, but alive in a way that didn’t belong to her world—it belonged to Kael’s. Everywhere she looked, people—wolves—moved with a grace that was almost predatory, yet elegant. There were no uniforms, no strict formality, just a rhythm of motion that Elara couldn’t quite understand. Eyes followed her everywhere, some curious, some reverent. She felt like a rare creature that had accidentally wandered into a forbidden garden. Kael was beside her, silent but unyielding. He never touched her, but his presence pressed against her like a shield, and she couldn’t help noticing how easily he commanded attention. Every glance the other wolves cast in their direction shifted immediately when he walked by. Heads bowed slightly, even the boldest members’ eyes softened. “This is my pack,” he said quietly, almost to himself. “The Blackwood Pack.” “Elara,” Mara—the silver-haired woman from last night—said as she approached. Her eyes were sharp, assessing. “And this… is you.” Elara forced a laugh, brushing it off. “Me? I’m not special. I’m just… confused.” “You’re not confused. You’re awakening,” Mara corrected gently. Her gaze lingered on Elara as if she could see through her bones. “You can feel it, can’t you?” Elara hesitated. “Feel… what?” “The bond,” Kael said, his voice low and steady, almost reverent. “It’s already taking hold. The moment we met, it began. You may not understand it yet, but it is real, and it is powerful.” Elara’s stomach knotted. Her pulse raced as a strange warmth began spreading beneath her skin, pulling her toward Kael in ways she could neither rationalize nor resist. She wanted to deny it, but denial felt futile. She could feel it in the way her body tensed, the way her heartbeat synchronized with the rhythm of his presence. “Wait,” she said, trying to step back, but her legs trembled. “You mean… you’re telling me all this… and it’s… it’s not a joke?” Kael’s golden eyes fixed on hers. “Would I lie?” His voice was soft, almost tender, yet it carried a weight that made her chest tighten. “You are my mate, Elara. The universe didn’t just hand me a choice—I was given you, and now you cannot deny what is already ours.” The words were heavy, and she shook her head, trying to clear the haze that was clouding her mind. “I’m… human,” she said. “I don’t belong here. I can’t belong here. This… this is insane.” “Insane?” Mara asked, tilting her head. “Or awakening?” Elara blinked. She didn’t have an answer. The house, the people, Kael—it all seemed unreal. Yet there was a pull, deep and undeniable, that made her knees weak. Kael stepped closer. “There is a world hidden from yours,” he said, his voice dropping lower, almost a growl. “One ruled by packs, by laws older than cities, by bonds stronger than steel. And you… are part of it now. Whether you like it or not.” She stared at him, heart hammering. “You… you’re not human either,” she said slowly, almost a whisper. “No,” he admitted. “And neither are the people here. Wolves live in the shadows of human society, guarding it, enforcing laws you can’t even begin to comprehend. We are more than myth, more than legend. We are real. And you, Elara, are tied to me in ways you cannot imagine.” The weight of his words pressed down on her, and a thrill ran along her spine—terrifying, intoxicating, and undeniable. She wanted to run. She wanted to laugh. She wanted to cry. And yet, she couldn’t step away. The pull was magnetic, a force that seemed to anchor her to his very presence. Kael’s gaze softened just enough to make her knees threaten to buckle. “You are not alone,” he said quietly. “And you never will be—not now, not ever.” Elara’s breath caught. She wanted to argue, to deny, to protest. But for the first time, she realized that maybe, just maybe, this was exactly where she was supposed to be. And yet… the fear lingered, gnawing at her mind. Because along with the pull, there was something else—something dark, something she could feel but not name. The world she had stepped into was magnificent and terrifying, beautiful and deadly. And she wasn’t ready for it. But the world wasn’t waiting. Kael’s hand brushed against hers—not enough to touch, just close enough to make her heart stutter. “You’ll learn,” he said. “And when you do… you’ll never want to leave.” Elara stared at him, unsure whether to be furious, terrified, or helplessly drawn. One thing was certain: her life had changed forever. And somewhere deep down, she knew that there was no going back.
