“Wake up!” My wolf Page yelled. My eyes flew open. I couldn’t see anything through the haze of smoke. My nostrils burning. I jumped out of bed running to my parents room.
“Mom! Dad! Where are you!” I yelled
“Skylar get out!” My dads voice was far away.
I turned the corner and tripped. Then everything went black. I felt myself being lifted. Strong arms holding me. Then nothing.. only darkness.
Beep.beep.beep.
I jolted up looking around frantically. The room was white and had medical equipment. Was I in a hospital? What happened?
“Where are we” My wolf Paige asked.
“I..I don’t know.” Panic was starting to set in.
Then a man in a white coat walked in. He was muscular and had salt and pepper hair.
“I’m doctor Johnson, glad to see you are finally awake.” He said.
I stared at him.
“How did I get here? Where are my parents?”
His face looked pinched. “I have some bad news I’m afraid. There was a fire and your parents didn’t make it. I am sorry.”
My heart went to my stomach and bile began rising in my throat. Tears began pouring out of my eyes.
“What happened?” I squeaked out.
“The alpha will be here shortly to explain. For now try to rest.” With that he turned on his heel and left.
“Who the hell is the alpha, and how does he know I’m a wolf?” My mind was racing. I was still sobbing when my ears picked up on two males talking.
“She is awake alpha.”
“Alert my father he needs to speak with her.”
“She is a wolf, but remember she wasn’t raised in our world. She might be frightened.”
“I am well aware of that..”
The door opened and a scent hit my nose. Mmm sandalwood and mint. I instantly felt a calm wash over me. My wolf began to purr. “Mmm he smells so good!”
“Hush paige!” I scolded.
“So your awake beautiful?” His voice was smooth like velvet.
“How do you feel?”
My voice had vanished. I was staring at him. Damn what a hot male. His black hair hazel eyes and muscular build. The black v neck he was wearing showed his muscles perfectly. He was tall over 6 foot.
“Ahem..” he coughed. A smile on his face.
“Oh, Uh.. I’m feeling O-Kay.” I mumbled.
“Good, my name is Damian. I am the soon to be alpha of the Silver moon pack. You are in our pack hospital.” His voice was so calming.
“I am Skylar.. what am I doing here?” I said.
His hand went behind his neck nervously.
“I was out walking and I found you in a burning home. Your father told me to save you. Before I could go back for them the roof collapsed. The fire department got there too late..and your parents..”
“They died.” I cut in. It wasn’t a dream. Tears began rolling down my cheeks again.
“I offer my condolences, and you are welcome to join our pack. There’s nothing left of your home. And my father was advised that you have no other family.” His voice sounded nervous.
No I didn’t have other family. I don’t have anyone. Paige whimpered “you still have me!”
“Oh paige! I am lucky to have you. We are one. I’m am sorry.” I spoke to her in my mind.
She sighed and went to the back of my mind laying down. Her back facing me.
“Okay.” I said. Wiping tears from my eyes.
“Okay what?” He looked at me with a raised brow.
“Okay I will join your pack. I have nothing else to loose.” I said emotionless.
He looked at me with the biggest smile. I offered a half hearted one. Remembering my manners now that I was with other wolves.
“Thank you alpha for this opportunity.” I bowed my head to him in submission.
His smile instantly faded. He got up turning away from me.
“Very well, I will be back in an hour to show you to your room. I will have a nurse bring you a change of clothes and get your discharge paperwork in order while I am gone.” He said firmly.
Without looking back he turned and left me sitting in silence.
“What are we getting ourselves into Paige?” I thought.
