Avery’s POV
I didn’t know what had happened at Scafell, but I knew it was serious. I had been so far out of the loop with Malachi this last week with my own troubles. It was only when I called to confirm our meeting today that I knew he had forgotten all about it and had other things on his mind.
“Oh, right, um... Sorry… I um…” He was so dazed, he worried me.
“Mal, what’s wrong? Is everything alright?” I asked with concern.
“Avery” he croaked, barely holding his voice together. I could hear the deep pain in his tone. “It’s a mess. I… I… can’t….” he struggled to get his words out.
