Aurora sat still trying to steady her heavy breathing as Remi’s voice sliced through the silence. The air in the cell was cold, but it wasn’t the chill that made her shiver.
It was the hatred in Remi’s eyes, the way she looked completely different from the sweet girl that used to follow Aurora.
"She wrote a note, you know," Remi continued with a small smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Astrid. She left it on her bed, said she couldn’t live with a broken heart. Said Rowan made her feel like dirt. He was her whole world, and when he ended things, she felt like nothing."
Aurora’s lips parted, but no sound came out. Her throat was dry and her chest felt tight. "He was just a kid," she managed to say in a weak tone. "He was a kid obeying his father."
