Chapter 3

376 Words
I was still sitting on the tree branch when I woke up. I wasn't one to jolt awake like that unless I felt something was off. Looking around the forest below me I saw a flash of movement below me. Sitting as still and quietly as my body could I continue to watch for any more movement and after not seeing any for several minutes let out the breath I didnt realize I was holding. I stayed up in that tree until night fall before climbing down. I wasn't one to take chances so as soon as my feet touched the ground I took of running across what once was a farmers field. Running as fast as I could to the section of trees on the other side when I saw them again. Those eyes that I couldn't help be feel drawn them. As soon as I saw them the were gone. I stopped running and stood there unsure of that to do. Something inside me wanted to go after the owner of those eyes while the rest of me was pushing me to run in the opposite direction and never look back. I knew that was pointless though because no matter what I did I could never seem to lose the owner to those eyes. I took off towards where I saw the eyes only to find no one there. All that remained of where I saw those eyes was a satchel and a small cave like formation hidden under the roots of a large tree. Looking into the satchel I found several bottles of water and what looked to be dried meat. Not trusting any of it I left the satchel where it was and found a nearby pond and set up camp there. I took a few minutes to cover myself in mud from the ponds edge incase he had been tracking my sent. After finding a clearing to hide surrounded by thick underbrush I prepared to being wait. I wasn't going to sleep until I had my answer. Thankfully it didn't take long for my stalker to show. He dropped down by the pond and looked around. The mud must have been doing its job because soon after he appeared his left.
