A Tasteless Legacy (2)

427 Words
Nolan           Nolan's heart contracts as he zooms in to read what his angel is typing on her laptop. His name is written there. Tears escape from his eyes as he registers her written words, but at the same time, a smile plays on his deformed lips as he reads them out loud. "Nolan was selfless. He was a man who thought of everyone else and cared about the world..." Nolan feels himself soften as he sits there on his bed, watching her on the screen of his tablet. "Nolan said in an interview that the inspiration behind creating R3ndall came from watching his best friend drown in high school because no one there knew how to perform CPR properly. He said he wanted to create something that could know this information and more, and have the capability to perform these spontaneous tasks whenever the situation calls for it. "He was a selfless man and he doesn't deserve this legacy of just being a crazy because of one mistake." Nolan's heart squeezes tighter as the meaning of her words sinks in, his smile never breaking. She's saying he doesn't deserve this legacy. She's saying that the world should be more respectful to his name because he has done more good than bad. Nolan suddenly has the urge to leave this place and run out there, and tell everyone what his angel really thinks of him, what she thinks he deserves. He wants to go to her, kneel by her feet and thank her a million times for thinking of him that way. He wants her to know that he knows her, even though she doesn't know him. He wants her to know that he loves her, with all of himself, and will continue to protect her to his last breath. He wants her to know that she makes him smile in his endless dark days, gives him a purpose, and makes him feel like more than just a monster. Nolan continues watching the screen as his angel taps a last key on her laptop and saves her work with a satisfied smile on her face. He can't help but smile wider because she had just spent an entire hour writing about him. Him. Oh, if she only knew how he feels. How grateful he is that she walked into his life that night near the ravine. She was like sunlight that shone on his scars, on his hideous, shameful face, yet somehow she made him feel like the most beautiful man in the world. If only she knew.
