The Silent Hunt

1181 Words
I undressed quickly, throwing my clothes behind me in a trail and ran to a bush close by the one that Noah had dived into. I willed on my shift, calling upon my fox to take over. A rush of pain rolled over my body but I relaxed into it. My nails dug into the dirt as my hands transformed into paws and my nails grew longer and thicker. My mouth and nose extended to give my teeth more room to grow and white fur began to sprout all over my body. I shook my head and tail, allowing my body and muscles to adjust to the shift. As I stepped out of the bush, I noticed Noah sitting with his back to me, waiting but giving me privacy. His fur was a sandy blonde colour, matching his hair colour. He was just as big as Nathanael in fox form but was much more slender with longer legs. I quietly prowled out of the bush, creeping down close to the floor. My hind legs coiled ready for my attack. I waited a few more seconds, calculating the distance that I would have to jump to reach Noah. Just as I pounced, he turned around, meeting me mid air. I swivelled my body around, giving me an advantaged and I landed on top of him. Noah's laugh bounced around in my head as he mind linked with me, "well done my little grasshopper but you have much to learn about the silent hunt." "Shut up, you know I got you good," I playfully responded. I jumped off of Noah and nudged my head to the south, "let's run to the south." He nodded his head, "Ladies first." I sped off with Noah catching up so that we were running side by side. "How have you really been Willow?" he asked. "Confused," I responded honestly. "I don't know where I originated from, why my family abandoned me? Why I have this birth mark? and I have to break Nathanael's heart to protect him, so really s**t really." He glanced at me with sadness in his eyes. "It will work out in the end," he said with a reassurance in his voice. We continued on in silence, I knew that he didn't know what to say to make me feel better and I was tired of reliving my sadness. We both halted suddenly, sniffing the air from the west. "You smell that?" He asked. "Wolves," I responded. I know one of the scents, he is their leader. I ran into him in town. They were tracking my scent because he wanted to capture me." Noah let out a growl and sped forward running to the west. I pushed my body to catch up with him. We ran full pelt, following the track of the scents. "I make out three wolves," I stated. "They are travelling in the same direction." Noah responded, "they were on our land. They know where you are. I am going to kill every last one of them. Do they really think that they could get this close and not pay for it." As we continued running, I was suddenly hit by the amber scent. Which meant that the lone wolf was here too and he was heading in the same direction as the others.  We ran into a clearing and we both skidded to an abrupt stop. In the middle of the clearing was the three wolves fighting the lone wolf. "They are fighting the black wolf. Why would they be fighting each other?" Noah questioned. "We will just watch from a distance and once they kill each other, we will kill off those that are remaining," "Noah, we have to help him," I urged. Noah looked at me with a puzzled glare. "You can't tell the other Skulk members but he saved me. The other wolves had me and he fought them off and killed one of them. I am not asking you to help, I can help him on my own, just please don't tell the others about him," I begged. The lone wolf yelped in pain as the ginger wolf gripped onto his neck, pinning him to ground as the other wolves locked their jaws onto his hind legs. I ran straight for them, rage washing over me. I bared my teeth letting out a loud growl as I jumped onto the ginger wolf's back, biting down hard on the back of his neck. My teeth broke his fur as his blood filled my mouth. He let go of his grip on the lone wolf and tried to shake me off. The lone wolf jumped up, attacking a dark brown wolf as Noah pinned down the lighter brown wolf. I held onto the ginger wolf's neck, shaking my head, ripping into his flesh. I pulled my teeth back, pulling away his skin in my mouth as he yelped loudly. He jumped up and ran: leaving the other two wolves behind. I turned to see that the lone wolf had lost his grip of the dark brown wolf who was now running in the same direction as his leader. I ran over to the lone wolf and could see that he was hurt pretty badly and had various puncture wounds all over his body. I ran over to Noah, who was standing over the light brown wolf. The light brown wolf was laying on the floor motionless but he was still breathing which meant that Noah had knocked him out. "I am taking him back to the mansion for questioning. You'd better get your wolf to leave before the others come. I will honour your wish and not tell them about him but if they find him here, there is nothing I can do," he said with authority. With that he let out a loud call to the other Skulk members leaving me maybe five minutes to get the lone wolf out of the area.  I ran towards the lone wolf and walked close by his side giving him support as he hobbled along. I allowed him to guide us but pushed myself up against him to hold him up. After a few minutes, we arrived at the back of the church gardens and walked the length of the garden wall. We came to a set of steel stairs which he climbed with me following close behind him.  At the top of the stairs, was a black door which appeared to have a symbol drawn on it with red paint. The lone wolf used his nose to push the door open and walked into a dimly lit kitchen. The kitchen was small and had lots of little bottles of what looked like herbs and spices. Different fragrances seeped out if the kitchen but the lone wolf's scent permeated here.  As I stepped over the threshold of the door, the lone wolf turned towards me and growled as what felt like an electric shock, threw me backward, causing me to tumble down the stairs before darkness took over me.
