I opened my eyes and yawned, stretching my body as I heard my back c***k and pop. Looking around I could see that was I was lying on a blanket in a sunny clearing in the forest. It felt familiar, but I couldn’t remember actually being here before.
I sat up slowly and looked around. “Destiny....” I jumped when I heard a strong voice calling out. Again, I heard it “Destiny...”. I squinted my eyes and jumped when I saw a shadow moving towards me from the woods. I gasped as I saw a huge white wolf stride into my view . I started crawling backward, until my back hit a tree. “Oh no, I thought. I have died in my sleep and the spirit wolf is here to take me! What about mom?!”.
The wolf started chuckling as he continued to walk towards me. Do not be scared that I am here. Before I knew it he was sitting there next to me, and reached out with his paw touching me. I felt a warmth and calm roll over my body like a wave. "Who are you", I asked? A better question, he responded, is who are you? I looked at him with a bit of a blank stare before looking away. I guess I don’t really know, I said. I don’t even know my wolf's name. Although I wasn’t yet 16, most teen wolves my age have already met and spoken to their wolf... That changes today, he said. Are you ready to meet your wolf? He asked. I looked into his face and saw his eyes sparkling and I felt an intense connection to this wolf, as if I had always known him. Yes, I replied hopefully.
I closed my eyes and prepared for the pain of shifting- I had been told the first shift was immensely painful and could take an hour or more.... In an instant I was standing next to him. I looked down at my hands and instead saw huge white paws. I gasped and sat down trying to look at my body. On my right front foot was the black mark that was my birth mark. I tripped as I tried to see the rest of myself and felt something hitting my body. “Oh my god, that is MY tail?! I thought” as I saw it wagging happily. I looked next to me and was shocked to see the white wolf lying on his back rolling around and laughing at me! But he no longer looked large.
Uhm... I wasn’t really sure what to say. So if you won’t tell me who you are, can you tell me who I am? He stopped laughing and sat up directly in front of me, gazing into my eyes. You, are Destiny. Daughter of the great white wolf Ziarr. I thought I might not ever live to meet you he said, smiling. Ziarr? I asked? I thought he died a century ago. “I am not dead, but I am not exactly alive either, he said. Saving you required a great deal of magic and a high sacrifice. But I would not hesitate to do it again”. He held out his paw and my gaze grew even wider as I touched my paw to his and saw that they were the same size.
