Ch 8

*EVERETT'S POINT OF VIEW*     As my son left, I spin in my chair, really thinking about his words. Casper is many things, but he isn't always the fighting type. What makes this girl so special? It has to be more than the mate bond. There has to be something more. But what it could be is a million and one things.     I come back to reality when i hear a knock at the door. "Come in."     In walks my beta of 25 years and best friend, Jasper, and his look tells me it isn't good news.     "hello dear friend, what bad news is it now?"     Jasper shakes his head, "Well for starters, did your son quit that s**t yet? It's stinking up the whole house!"     I shrug my shoulders, "Well as of 2 hours ago, he is officially the next alpha. He has finally come to his senses and is stepping up. Now if only he'll open up about that dreadful night." I slump back into my chair.     My friend sits across from me, "Events like that take time Ev. You cant be so hard on yourself or him. He has to be ready to face it on his own time. Charles was a phenomenal warrior and friend. I'd wanna bury the wounds too if i were in his shoes. We just have to give it a little more time."     "Its been 2 years Jas. I thought i lost my son that day. I saw a light in him die that day. And only today did i finally see it again. I miss the way my son used to be. Charlie kept him grounded, once he passed..." My voice trails off.     We sit in silence for a moment. Jas breaks the silence with a question. "Wait, what do you mean you only just saw it today?"     I smile, "My son has finally found his mate."     A sigh escapes his lips, "Finally. Maybe Kayla will be the kick in the ass he needs."     I shake my head, "I thought the same, but it isn't young Miss Kayla. She is still set to move out this afternoon."     "Well apparently a rogue showed up today. So fast through the border, no one realized they were here until it was too late. Apparently she was severely dehydrated and was nearly starved. According to Doc Ann she had been running for weeks straight with no rest. Like someone was hunting her."     "Well this rogue is my son's mate. And i agreed to least meet her before passing judgement. As of right now, she is to be kept under watch and under raps. Understood?"     "Yes Alpha." Jasper answers with a sharp nod.     "Good. Now, on to the real reason you're here. How's the hunt?"     "I'm going to be straight up with you, she's vanished. If this wolf is so rare, why has no one been able to find her since the explosion? She isnt older than 18 and yet she can evade 2 well trained packs? Rare or not, she has to have help."     I slump into my chair again, "Our client isn't going to be too happy to hear this. I fear his retaliation. We're suppose to be the best trackers this side of the Mississippi and we can't find a teenager. We need more time, and we need fresh trackers."     "We have no one left. We've been regularly rotating for a year so that no one couldn't pick up the scent. It's either she has help or she's already dead." Jasper sits back, crossing his arms. "We've exhausted every lead. He has to realize this would happen."     "The problem is, unless we give him a body or have proof she's dead or has help, it's on us. Our pack will not survive an attack from his and we both know that. So we have to figure out a plan."     "Why?" I see the fear grow in Jasper's eyes.     "He'll be here in one weeks time. By the rise of the New Moon.
