"Happy birthday to you."
"Happy birthday to you."
"Happy birthday dear princess."
"Happy birthday to you."
I stretched lazily and yawned in my bed.
I was still sleeping when I heard numerous voices singing a birthday song.
I guess the voices are from downstairs.
I got out of bed, walked into the bathroom and brushed my teeth before coming out of my room.
Immediately when I grabbed the railing of the staircase to descend the stairs downstairs, I felt something like snow on my body.
When I raised up my head to look at where the snow is coming from, I realized it was fake snow.
It was actually snowing inside the house.
I looked down again and saw the maids holding a large banner with my picture on it and a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCESS" written in block just beneath the picture.
"Happy birthday princess."
My parents said in unison.
"Happy birthday bestie."
Lily, my best friend also came all the way from home this early just to wish me a happy birthday.
One by one, they all came forward and hugged me including aunt Mary and the maids.
I was so touched. I opened my mouth to say something but words failed me so I started crying instead.
"Who was it that always said happy days are not meant for crying?"
Lily asked with a smile.
"I'm not crying."
I said using the back of my left arm to wipe my tears.
Mom started instructing the maids as they started packing our luggages into the cars.
The actual party is to be held in Arena hotel, the best five star hotel under the Michelle And Princess Empire.
Michelle And Princess Empire is the brand name of my mother's company. It deals mainly in jewelry and wedding dresses.
At exactly five in the evening, we arrived at Arena Hotel.
I'm not one to be fascinated by beautiful things because even at my young age, it will be a shame if I have not seen my fair share of beauty considering I'm the daughter of Michelle Luise.
My mom never settles for less when it comes to her only daughter.
Her dearest "princess" and so history repeated itself every year at my birthday party.
This year wasn't an exception either.
Immediately when I walked inside the hotel, I froze for God knows how long with both hands covering my mouth in awe.
The whole place was decorated in pink which is my favorite color.
Even the smallest details weren't left out.
The decoration started straight from the entrance with pink balloons and pink baby-breath and rose flowers.
The couches in the ballroom were all pink and the whole place was also decorated with the same flowers as outside.
The ceiling in the ballroom looked like a pink sky with tiny pink little stars scattered on it.
Beautiful chandeliers hanged loosely from the ceiling.
There was a small stage built in the ballroom with pink decoration and my pictures were all over the place.
The whole place looked like a work of art.
A master piece to be precise.
Mom surely knows how to plan a surprise.
"I supervised the decoration of the venue myself."
"Thank you mom."
I said with teary eyes.
"You are welcome my princess."
She said with a smile.
"Now let's go get you ready."
Lily said enthusiastically beside me and I nodded.
The party started around six in the evening.
Because it was strictly by invitation, nothing unexpected happened.
After I cut the cake, everyone presented their gifts to me.
The party lasted till eleven in the evening since the next day was a Saturday and nobody will be going to work.
"Miss, your mom said I should wake you up for breakfast."
Dianne said, standing at the door and fumbling with her dress shyly.
"Come on Dianne, I have told you before that I see you as a sister so there is no need for such formalities okay?"
"I'm sorry miss Elena."
"Oh there you go again."
I sighed.
"B...bu... but I c... can't call y... you by your name. I... it's disrespectful."
She stammered.
"Come sit down."
"Miss?"
She inquired as if she didn't hear me the first time."
"Sit on the bed Dianne, it doesn't bite."
"Please."
I said when I noticed she was afraid.
After fiddling with her dress for a while, she finally sat down".
"See, I told you it doesn't bite".
I said with a smile.
"Look Dianne."
I began to say.
"In this world, nobody is useless, because I'm in a more comfortable position than you are now doesn't guarantee that I treat you like trash."
She lowered her head and I was glad because per her personality, lowering her head meant I had her full attention and that she was listening attentively to what I was saying.
"Mom always says that when you look down on people, the universe also looks down on you."
"You are like the sister I never had and moreover, you are way older than me so please don't keep addressing me like that again."
"It breaks my heart."
"Please just call me Elena."
I concluded.
"O...o...kay m... miss E...E...Ele...."
"Elena Dianne, just Elena is fine."
"Okay Elena."
"Finally, see, was it difficult to do that?"
I asked her with a smile and she just smiled back.
I understood her completely because that smile alone spoke volumes of things that words could not have done."
"Thank you for coming to get me sister Dianne, please tell mom I'm coming."
She nodded with a smile and left my room for the dining area."
