“Your punches are stronger,” Lucien commented as Robin dodged another one of his punches. “But the kicks need more work, I know,” Robin said and jumped back, barely avoiding the kick to a stomach, Lucien didn’t give up though, he kept pushing forward and Robin kept backing away.
Robin glanced around, looking for something to bounce back on and kick Lucien in the stomach, her kicks might be weak, but the element of surprise will add power to it. She saw a big tree trunk on her left. Robin turned her face back to Lucien to see him closely analyzing her, both of them run towards the trunk. Robin pushed Lucien out of her way, but he still reached it faster, “Stop relying on tricks, fight properly, Robin.” Robin growled and threw a punch, Lucien caught it and tried to twist but Robin used the momentum to push him towards the tree trunk, he stumbled and fell. He growled and tried dragging Robin down with him but she pulled away and fell to the opposite side.
They laid on the ground, both trying to catch their breaths after an hour of endless punches and kicks. “Next week, we start training with the new members,” Lucien told her this morning. It was only Wednesday but Robin learned and saw so much that she felt like she must have spent weeks in Oak Tails.
She was getting used to the familiar routine of a morning run, breakfast, and briefing with Lucien and Derek who apparently was the new Gamma. “I fought him and trained him, in no time he would be just like our old Gamma’s,” Lucien spoke to Robin when they were alone, he kept talking of the old days of Oak Tails, their old ways, and ways of leading. Robin didn’t remember most of it, she was too young when the war happened, add that with the trauma of seeing death and murder happen in the room where she had her daily nap or lunch, you end up with one hell of a fractured memory. Her brain has blocked or erased or even burned most of her Oak Tails memories.
So, she nodded and carefully listened to everything Lucien told. He was talking of the past and future and Robin couldn’t help but feel excited for what was to come. She finally felt like she was doing something right, something to make her parents proud of her.
After showering and breakfast, Robin made her way to the Alpha House. She pushed through the open door and climbed to the second floor, towards the big office they usually had their meetings in. they spend an hour discussing the state of the pack; the First floor of Pack House was fully renovated, new members were moving in, everyone was supposed to reach Oak Tail this weekend. The first batch of medical supplies and armoury has arrived this morning.
This was in a way, like a school. Robin thought as she went to do her tasks for the day. He would wake up early, come here, recap what she knew, discuss what she learned and get more tasks to complete. I could definitely do this. Robin reassured herself, I am Beta by blood, I will succeed. So, she went to Pack, area met the members, assigned their tasks, and went to the smaller building next to it, it was going to function as a temporary hospital. She saw Derek drive away in the big car guiding the armoury trucks towards their new post. Oak Tails is making a comeback.
Whenever she had free time and energy, which was not often, Robin checked her phone, reading through the group chats with girls and replying to some. Wren wanted updates about the research, Blair sent her a new training routine, Hope was struggling to pick a baby name. Robin sighed as she locked her phone. Maybe, replying later wouldn’t hurt anyone.
She kept saying this until it was Sunday and Iris texted her and asked about when she was coming back, they wanted to plan a night out. The first thing Robin felt was excitement, she missed the carefree outing and drinking with her friends, the second thing she felt was guilt.
One of the few things Lucien made clear was that Oak Tails was to remain private; the pack was just trying to get back on its feet, if the information about it spread, there were a lot of packs that would love to take advantage of their situation. If anything about it reached other Alpha’s, there would be yet another war, and Oak Tails was likely to lose. Robin would never risk something this big, so to everyone in River banes, this was still an archaeology project, harmless research.
Robin made her way to Alpha House, she needed to talk with Lucien about prospects of going back to River Banes. After all, the research only needed her here every other week, pack needed her here every day. As she entered she saw Derek on the stairs he chuckled, "I was about to come and get you, Alpha has exciting announcements.” Robin nodded and made her way up towards the office once again, with Derek walking behind her.
Lucien smiled like a mad-men and gestured for them to the seat. “Everyone has arrived. Oak Tails is back together. Pack House is full!” he exclaimed and Robin felt pride rise in her chest, they were on the right track. “We will go join them in a bit, but I wanted to talk with you once more, about the next week. It will be the first week of full work, training, and pack duties for everyone. We need to show pack members our best side, we need to make them believe that they have a future here, in Oak Tails.” Lucien said and placed his hands on the table. “Next week is the start of it all.”
After this Lucien, Robin and Derek walked towards the Pack House. Robin noticed how all the night lights have been turned on, the air smelled of fresh-cut grass. The pack was ready, and as Robin’s eyes landed on the large crowd gathered in front of the Pack House, she felt ready as well.
The pack members drifted away, clearing a passage for the higher ranks to pass through, Lucien stood in front of them, his green eyes gleaming with pride and something else. Power. He felt powerful. And this was just the beginning, “Welcome, to Oak Tails,” his voice boomed, “you will love it here,” his voice spoke with even more power, Lucien was using his alpha tone, it demanded submission., it gave power.
After the speech, Robin turned her phone on and texted Iris a reply.
I can’t come back this week. Research got extended.
