Chapter 19

Things were going well until Robin realized that they weren’t. It all started on Friday night when Lucien asked her over for the drinks. When Robin arrived, Lucien already had few glasses of whiskey. “We are very close to achieving everything I wanted to do,” Lucien spoke and turned to Robin. “Congratulations are in order, Beta. Come, drink with me.” Robin was about to refuse, she really hates whiskey and the burning feeling it leaves in her throat. But she found that she couldn’t. She felt something in her accept Lucien’s words as if they were the only true thing in the world. Her body was about to take a glass of whiskey when she finally found enough control in her body to shake her head. “I don’t like whiskey.” She said,    Lucien’s eyes shone with surprise, his lip twitched. “Disagreeing direct orders, fine, I’ll let it slide this time. Choose something for yourself.” Robin went towards the bar and picked beer; the night was young and she was still considering her mind and bodied betrayal of a second ago. It was a direct order, Robin. He used the Alpha tone on you. Her wolf chimed in. Alpha's tone demanded agreement, subordination. Why would Lucien use it on her? It was meant for making sure pack members listened to orders. They were friends and this was a night of drinks.    “How’s the week? Apart from that table-boy irritation.” Lucien asked and sat on the couch. Robin chuckled, man that guy was on her nerves, but someone else was even more on her nerves. “Derek is irritating me, acting like I am some f*****g girl he is pinning after and not his superior,” Robin winced at the harshness of her own voice. Lucien smirked and turned towards her his green eyes having more silver in them than ever. “Then show him who you are, Robin. Prove yourself superior, teach him his place.” Robin smiled like a mad-men. She is his superior, much stronger than him. She also noticed how Lucien’s voice had the double edge to it as well, his wolf was on the surface just like hers.    “You are sharing control with your wolf,” Robin said and Lucien nodded. “Took you long enough to notice. I thought you still haven’t discovered that power of having a pureblood.” Robin arched her brow. “Are there any other powers?” She wanted to learn it all, control all small and hidden things her blood contained. She wanted to learn more, become more. Become powerful. Some part of her was thirsty for more power. Lucien nodded and finished his glass. “Of course, there is so much more, Robin. I will teach you all when the time is right.” Robin nodded and moved to drink whiskey. Maybe she could learn to like it.    “I thought about everything you told me, about the River Banes. And congratulations are in order.” Robin raised her brows; her head was cloudy from the drinks but she didn’t miss the look of pride in Lucien’s eyes. “You have managed to infiltrate the Alpha family of River Banes. Get one for mates, manage to discard the mate bond, and still have poor fella be friends with you.  And I am not talking about the rest of that family, all of them regard you as friends, and it's wonderful.” The way he spoke made it seem anything but wonderful, Robin felt sick to her stomach when Lucien phrased her actions like that. Who am I? What have I done? “Through all of it, even managed a long-term relationship with a half-human for what about a year. I commend you, you have done well by both Oak Tails standard and personally,” he winked at the last part and finished his glass in one go. Robin felt uneasy as she followed his actions.    Something was wrong, but her mind was too tired and drunk to consider it. She blamed it all on paranoia, Lucien is her friend, her family. If anything, he would be the one to help and protect her. She should feel safe here, then, why does she felt like danger was sitting next to her?    “The rest of them, are in the past now. All you need to focus on is Oak Tails and its future glory.” Lucien said as he sat back down, he turned to Robin and she felt the same sense of calm and trust in Lucien’s word wash over her. She didn’t need to think about the River Banes or her friends, all mattered was that she was home.    The problem with the brain was that once it notices something, it can’t stop noticing over and over again. So, Robin noticed, for the second time in the last few hours, that Lucien was using her Alpha tone on her. He was reassuring her of the future, the Oak Tails and she couldn’t help but think how many more times has he done this and it has gone unnoticed by Robin.    Soon after she made up an excuse of headache and left, only after she locked the door of her house that she sighed in relief. She was panicking, her head hurt, and she was tipsy. This wasn’t the best combination for solving problems. But it would have to do, Robin was afraid that if she slept, she would wake up and forget about the things she understood tonight.    So, she wrote them down on her phone before passing out on the bed.    1.     Lucien is using his Alpha tone on you. BE CAREFUL‼ 2.     He knows about Margo. I never talked about Margo with him 3.     He knows a lot more of pureblood powers than he is letting on 4.     You need to go back to River Banes.
