“Serena time to wake up,” grandmother called from the bottom of the stairway. I stretched out and rolled onto my side looking at the alarm clock. Five am. The sun isn’t even up yet. I got out of bed and made my way down stairs. Both my grandparents were at the table having coffee and pancakes I sat infront of the plate grandmother made for me staring at it half asleep.
“Eat and get dressed,” grandfather said as he took a drink of his coffee. “You will be coming with me today. It’s time for you to learn how to be an alpha.”
“Yes sir,” again all I could reply to him. He turned and started talking to my grandmother as I ate. I may only be five but I am not stupid. I recalled the conversation I over heard just a few days before my brother and I were sent here between my father and my uncle. How they said what grandfather was doing was madness.
*** FLASHBACK ***
“What the hell is father thinking by doing this to us? It’s total humiliation,” Uncle Alex hollered as he threw his glass across the room hitting the wall. The beer ran down as glass flew everywhere. He stomped over to the table where my father sat reading the paper work that had been delivered to them by my grandfathers beta.
“I do not know but I intend to find out,” my father stated as he balled up the papers and threw them in the fire. Father go up and went over to the window looking out into the dark night. “He is skipping a whole generation. Just because Michael fell doesn’t mean we can not run the pack after the old man is dead.”
“She is a child. A female to top it off,” uncle Alex was fuming at this point he is pacing the floor as his eyes begin to glow ice blue.
“Keep it down you fool,” my father turns to him with a warning glare his eyes now just as blue as uncles. Their wolves are at the surface. “Xander is still here. Do you want him to hear you and run back to father now?”
“I’ll kill her,” uncle said as he started for the door. I froze. I was watching from upstairs through a vent in the floor I knew the ‘her’ was me.
“No!” My father growled jumping between my uncle and the door blocking his path. “She is my daughter. The old man went stupid but I won’t allow you to kill my pup over his f**k up.” Fire begins to swirl in his hands. My father is really mad now I’ve only seen this a few times. Unlike myself who can summon the fire at anytime for some reason my father like many other in are pack can only summon it when triggered by emotion or need to fight or defend themselves or other. I’ve been told since I was three to never tell anyone I can just will mine when ever I please.
“I should be the next in line,” uncle Alex roared. “Micheal is gone. I’m the second oldest. But he chooses me over a pup!” At this point Xander hears the commotion and bursts through the door. His golden eyes glowing bright. Grabbing my father and uncle by the throats pinning them to the wall. His claws are extended. Cassius, Xander’s wolf is in full control.
“I came here to deliver you the message of the alpha,” Cassius growled in his beta tone. Father and uncle are now whimpering under Cassius’ power. “Prepare her to leave I will stay and both pups are escorted to the village safely.” Cassius drops them as they both hit the ground Cassius’ eyes return to normal Xander is back in control.
“You two still do not get it,” Xander said as he glared down at the two on the floor attempting to get up. “Your not worthy. Your father knows that. The whole pack knows that. After the crimes you both have committed only reason you are both still alive is because your father couldn’t execute he own sons.” Xander turned and walked out shutting the door behind him. At that moment I got up and went and crawled back into bed.
*** END FLASHBACK ***
I finished my breakfast and ran up stairs and got dressed. I went to the restroom brushed my teeth, put on my shoes then ran back down stairs. Grandmother stopped me quick and grabbed a brush to put my hair in a ponytail. I turned to look grandfather was standing at the door waiting. I followed him as we went outside and got in to his truck. He lifted me up on the seat and buckled me in. Then we were off to the pack training fields.
