chapter 9

990 Words
The days after the great battle passed in a blur of change. The city no longer pretended wolves did not exist. News channels talked about "the events" every hour. Videos of the silver wolf and the black alpha spread across the world. Some humans were afraid. Some were angry. Many were curious. Zara and Roman stood on the roof again one week later. The tower had become the heart of the new Silver pack. Thousands lived there now — in empty offices turned into homes, in new rooms built fast below ground. Wolves from every country flew or drove in to join. Roman wore a simple black shirt. Zara wore silver-gray. They looked like king and queen, but they felt like guardians. A human car stopped at the gate below. Guards let it through. A woman stepped out — tall, dark hair, government badge on her belt. She wants to talk, Garrick said through the bond from the lobby. Her name is Agent Reyes. She says she speaks for the President. Roman looked at Zara. Ready? Zara took a deep breath. Yes. Time to meet the human world. They went down together. Agent Reyes waited in a large meeting room. No weapons. Only a folder in her hand. Four human guards stood outside the door. Inside, only she and the two wolves. Roman and Zara sat across the table. They did not offer to shake hands. Agent Reyes opened the folder. The world saw what happened here, she began. Wolves are real. Millions of people watched the videos. We cannot hide it anymore. We never asked to hide, Roman said calmly. We lived in secret to stay safe from hunters and hate. The agent nodded. I know. My government has files on wolf hunts going back a hundred years. Bad things on both sides. But now everything is different. She pushed a paper across the table. The President offers a meeting. Not secret. Public. On live television. You, Alpha Roman Vale, and Luna Zara — leaders of the Silver pack — speak to all humans. Tell your story. Ask for peace. Zara felt the pack listening through the bond. Thousands of minds waiting for her answer. Why now? Zara asked. Why not send soldiers? Because soldiers would lose, Agent Reyes said honestly. Your pack is too big. Too strong. And the people — many already like you. They call the silver wolf a hero online. Children draw pictures of you. We want peace more than war. Roman looked at Zara. What do you think? Zara closed her eyes for a moment. She felt the pack's hope. Their fear. Their trust in her. We will come, she said. But on our terms. No tricks. No silver weapons. The meeting in open ground. Cameras for all to see. Agent Reyes smiled a little. Agreed. Three days later, the meeting happened. A huge park in the center of the city. Grass still green from winter rain. Thousands of humans stood behind barriers. Cameras everywhere. Drones in the sky. Roman and Zara walked out alone. No guards. The Silver pack watched from buildings around the park, ready but hidden. The President waited on a simple stage with Agent Reyes and a few leaders. Roman wore black. Zara wore silver. The mark on her neck shone softly in the sun. The President spoke first. We come in peace. We want to learn. To live together. Then he stepped back. Roman spoke next, voice strong and clear. Microphones carried it to millions. We are wolves. We have lived among you for centuries. We work in your offices. Teach in your schools. Heal in your hospitals. We are not monsters. We only want safety for our families. The crowd was quiet. Listening. Then Zara stepped forward. Her voice was softer, but it reached every heart. I was human one week ago. I lived a normal life. Then I learned I carried silver blood — an old legend. Many wanted to own me. To use me. But Roman and the pack protected me. They showed me love and family. She looked at the humans. You do not need to fear us. We feel pain. We love our children. We want peace too. A little girl in the front row held up a drawing — a silver wolf with a crown of stars. Zara smiled at her. We can be friends. Neighbors. One world. The crowd cheered. Not all, but many. Loud and real. The President signed papers that day. First rules for wolves and humans: No hunting wolves. Wolves follow human laws in cities. Packs can own land openly. Schools and jobs open to all. It was only the beginning. Not perfect. Some humans still hated. Some wolves still distrusted. But it was a start. That night, the Silver pack celebrated on the roof. Music played. Food everywhere. Children ran and laughed in wolf and human forms. Roman pulled Zara away from the party to a quiet corner. He took her hands. One month ago, I was alone. Alpha of a small pack. Waiting for a mate I thought would never come. Zara touched his face. And I was just a girl with strange dreams. Now look at us, he said. Leaders of thousands. Bringers of peace. She leaned in and kissed him softly. We did it together. The moon rose full and bright above the city lights. Roman rested his forehead against hers. The legends were true, he whispered. Silver blood saved us. Zara smiled. No. Love saved us. The bond. The pack. You and me. They stood there a long time, watching their new world. Below, wolves and some brave humans danced together. Above, the stars watched over a city that finally knew the truth. And for the first time in centuries, wolves howled not in fear or war, but in joy. The silver Luna had risen. And the world would never be the same again.
