Partners, Not Equals

Sofia There are few things more satisfying than walking into a high-rise boardroom and watching twelve men blink at you like you wandered in from the wrong floor. Except maybe doing it while your billionaire business partner pulls your chair out without being asked. “Gentlemen,” Nathaniel said smoothly, “meet Sofia Daniels -founder, formulator, and the reason we’re not wasting another cent on generic white-label skincare nonsense.” I sat down, spine straight, blazer crisp. “Pleasure,” I said. “I hope you’ve all read the updated projections. If not, now’s your chance to look smarter than you sound.” A few of them choked on their lattes. Nathaniel didn’t even flinch. Just smiled. Nathaniel She was dangerous in a blazer. Poised, articulate, commanding -the kind of presence that made even my most skeptical advisors stop doodling in their notebooks. She didn’t beg for respect. She walked in like it was already hers. We spent the morning finalizing branding assets, shipment timelines, influencer targets. She said “clean but cultural,” and I watched half the room scribble it like gospel. Every time she spoke, I caught myself watching the curve of her hand when she emphasized numbers. The way her lips curled slightly when someone asked a dumb question. Not good. This was business. Strictly. Mostly. Maybe. Sofia After the meeting, I cornered him near the glass elevator. “You okay with how I handled the budget pushback?” I asked. “You looked… tense.” “I was thinking about how to tell you the Wi-Fi password in the partner’s lounge.” I blinked. “That’s what had you looking like you swallowed a lemon?” He leaned slightly closer. “I was also wondering if I should ask before I order us ginger tea or just surprise you.” I bit back a smile. “Surprise me and I walk.” “Fair,” he said. “But I’ll walk after you.” Nathaniel Later that evening, I found her alone in the co-working space, legs folded beneath her, sketching packaging ideas on a whiteboard like she forgot she wasn’t in her bedroom. She looked up. “What?” she asked. “Nothing,” I said. “Just... thinking this company’s going to make a fortune.” She tilted her head. “You mean we are.” A pause. I nodded. “We are.”
