The walk back to the pack house was awkward and silent, but thankfully he knew how to give space when it was necessary. We walked in and over to the elevator. After what felt like hours of silence, he said, " I hope everything is okay between you and your best friend." I smiled at him and said, "It will be, it's just gonna take time for both of us to heal and get over some things that we have no control over." He nodded and i could see worry etched into his forehead. I reached over and took his hand as the elevator came to a stop on the sixth floor. I walked out, pulling him with me and down the hall to my room. I opened the door and no sooner than i got it closed he spun me around and pinned me up against the wall. I couldn't control the moan that came out of my mouth and he cut it off by crashing his lips down on mine, sparks exploding off of us like fireworks. Call me crazy but i was already starting to love this man and i didn't even know his name. I pulled back and said, "How about we sit down and get to know one another a little better before we start ripping each others clothes off. Mate or not, I'd rather not make love to someone whose name i do not know." He chuckled and said,"Fair enough, I'm sorry,love. I've waited a long time to find you and I couldn't help myself. But please, allow me to formally introduce myself, I am,Davo Rivers, Alpha of the Lupine River Pack." I gawked at him and realized who he was instantly. I just sat there shocked because this meant i wasnt his first mate,but his second chance mate. His first mate commited murder and was sentenced to execution nearly ten years ago. He was also the son of a very good friend of my fathers, Elder Jameson Rivers. I cleared my throat and said,"Please forgive me, i'm just a little surprised that you are the son of, Elder Rivers. I've heard the stories about you and your first mate. I'm sorry that you had to experience something so horrific." He looked down, hurt and betrayal etched on his face and immediately regretted bringing it up. I reached over and took his hand in mine and said, "We can talk about it when you are ready and not a second sooner. I'm sorry that i brought it up, I've just heard a lot of you, but your father always told us you had more pressing matters to attend to. Which is the reason why i haven't met you until now, i'm assuming." He squeezed my hand and nodded saying, "Yes, that is correct. I actually shut myself away from everyone for about a year before i finally stepped up as,Alpha of Lupine River. My father was actually surprised that i showed myself as soon as i did. And honestly, it hasn't been easy. At least not until tonight. When i seen you for the first time I felt something that i didn't even feel with my first mate. What i feel between us is so much stronger than what i felt with her. I can't believe i'm about to finally admit this out loud, but i knew the moment i found her, that not only her essence,but her wolf's essence as well, was tainted and dark. My wolf,Zephyr, actually wanted to reject her, but i was raised that you take the mate that you are given by the moon goddess. I do not believe in rejection. I sat there and quietly took in all of the shocking information he was giving me about his past and all I could bring myself to say was, " I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing about a wolf wanting to reject his mate, or anyone of our kind killing their own mother. Looking back now, do you wish you had rejected her?" He seemed to be thinking hard on the answer that he was going to give me and after a few moments he cleared his throat and said,"Honestly, yes I do. She was a horrible person and mate. Not once did we ever get intimate with each other either. She tried several times but the things she was into, repulsed me and my wolf. She wanted me to hurt her and do things no mate should ever want to do to their other half. Rough s*x is one thing, but I couldn't give her the type of s*x that she wanted. After several failed attempts to get me to do those things to her she finally stopped trying. I have felt guilty for not being able to please her or even make her happy for a very long time. Before I could even register what I was doing, I leaned over, put my hand on his face and said, "I accepted you the moment I laid eyes on you, I'm just hoping you accept me for my past as well." He let out a sigh of relief and kissed me fiercely and said,"I highly doubt there is anything you could possibly tell me, that I wouldn't be able to accept." I chuckled and said, I sure hope you feel that way after I tell you why all that happened earlier at the bonfire." He took my hand, and smiled saying, " I'm all ears,beautiful." I blushed at the way his pet name just rolled off of his tongue and I had to reign in my own thoughts to keep myself from jumping his bones right then and there. He seemed to notice that I was getting turned on because his eyes flashed black as he said," I'm more than willing to listen to anything you ever want to tell me, my beautiful mate, but you might want to try and control your body a little better because I'm having a really hard time holding myself back from ravaging every inch of you." I bit the inside of my cheek and said, " I'm sorry this is all new to me and I'm about to explain why. You see,the reason why,Erryn, growled at you earlier, is because she and I used to be in a relationship before tonight. We actually broke up last night because we knew that we probably weren't each other's destined mate. It hurt both of us very much to do it but we both knew it was necessary. I honestly don't think it will be an issue anymore, she has brendon and i have you. Besides, it seemed to be more of her wolf coming forward and reacting,not her." He nodded and said,"That doesn't bother me as long as she knows her place from now on. I am an Alpha. And even though i'm really calm most of the time, i will not hesitate to put her in her place." The way he was talking about Erryn, really made me feel some type of way, but I knew that those feelings would disappear after we mated and marked each other. I just nodded my head and said," I understand. I planned on talking to her about it tomorrow." He nodded and said," Good, so now that we have that out of the way, can we please go back to ripping each other's clothes off?" I laughed out loud and said, "Yes, yes we we can." He didn't hesitate to pick me up and walk us both over to my bed. He sat me down and slid my shirt up over my head and I did the same to him. He looked at me with so much want and need that it made me weak in the knees, so I was glad that I was sitting down. I ran my hands down the front of his perfectly toned,ripped body. I stopped at his belt, pulling it open slowly, looking at him with a seductive look. I undid his pants and slowly pulled the zipper down. Erryn's POV

After Rain left the bonfire, everything became awkward because my wolf, Indra,forced herself to the surface and pretty much tried to claim Rain, as her own. Everyone, including my new found mate, was now looking at me like I had lost my mind. Hell, if i'm being honest, I was confused as to why Indra would even come forward and try to do anything like that after we had found our mate.

"I did it because I love, Rain. I always have and I do not feel drawn to Brendon's wolf the way you are drawn to his human counterpart," she said to me through our link. I scoffed and said, "You could at least give him a chance before you just write him off like that. I know he isn't, Rain, but we always knew that this day would come, Indra. We have to let Rain go now before we lose her completely. Did you even recognize who her mate was before you came crashing to the surface? He was an alpha himself and he will not just idly stand by next time. He could easily put both of us in our place and force her to stay away from us." She whimpered and said,"I do not want that to happen, Erryn. But I am not ready to allow my destined in just yet. I'm still healing from the fact that our fated isn't, Rain. Just give me time please. I'm sure i'll come around soon."

And with those last few words i felt her withdraw to the shadows of my mind, but i could still feel how hurt she was over losing, Rain. I knew i would have to apologize to, Brendon. I just hope this doesn't push him to reject me. He left shortly after the whole incident and I knew that I had hurt him. Hell, it hurt me knowing that i had hurt him. I sat by the bonfire alone with the rest of my friends, hoping he would come back to at least give me the chance to explain why she had an outburst like that. I looked around, trying to see if i could find him, but decided i would just go look for him. I walked around through all the groups of people searching for him until i caught his scent and followed it. I walked for a good minute until i found him sitting beside the river with another she-wolf. I growled loudly startling both of them, and she immediately put her hands up and said,"Calm down, I'm just his little sister." "I'm sorry, it's been a bit of a rough start for your brother and I. Which is why i came looking for him. Do you mind giving us a minute, i have a few things i need to explain." She nodded, and said, "yes but i think you and i need to talk first." I raised my eyebrows at her, kind of taken aback at her boldness towards me. She got up and walked down the river until she knew we were out of hearing range and turned back to me and said," First off, I'm Nadia, sorry for not introducing myself back there but he needs his breathing room right now. It's nice to meet you." I smiled and said, It's nice to meet you, Nadia, I'm Erryn. I'm surprised you aren't upset with me right now though,honestly. I'm probably upset enough for both of us. I was hoping to meet his family under much better circumstances." She smiled warmly and nodded, " I understand your situation a lot better than you realize, so it's okay. That's actually what i wanted to talk to you about. As you know, Brendon is a couple of years older than both of us,but when he turned 18, he found his first mate moments after he got his wolf. She ended up being his then girlfriend's best friend. Not only was she her best friend, but she also had a boyfriend. She rejected him the moment he approached her, because she refused to hurt her best friend and she didn't want to break up with her boyfriend. So when your wolf tried to claim, Rain, he automatically thought she was rejecting him. He is worried because he knows it's rare for a second chance mate to come along for a wolf and he doesn't want to go through that pain again, trust me it was not pretty." I stood there completely shocked at the words that just came out of her mouth and my heart ached knowing that Indra made him feel rejected. She was whimpering in the back of my head, and she too was feeling horrible for making him feel that way. "I had no idea any of that had happened, Nadia. I never meant to make him feel that way. We are not rejecting him, I promise. My wolf just needs time to heal because she lost someone very dear to her tonight. Rain and I were together up until tonight. We decided to end things before the run because we knew that we probably weren't each other's fated mates. I wasn't expecting my wolf to still be so attached to her after we found your brother. I just need to explain to him why everything happened and i hope he doesn't choose to reject me. I really care about him and i really didn't mean to hurt him." She nodded and said, "I don't think you have to worry about him rejecting you, but he may take his time accepting you due to what happened with his first mate and all i ask is that you allow him the same time you are about to ask him for. You seem like a good fit for my brother and for his sake i hope that i'm right. I don't think he could survive losing you too. I'm glad we got to talk and i hope the next time we talk, it's under much better circumstances." She left me standing there, still shocked at hearing, not only what happened to him but also the fact that i wasn't just his mate, but his second chance mate. I took a deep breath and headed back to him, praying to the moon goddess that he would hear me out. When i got to him he looked up at me and said,"If you're going to reject me just get it over with." My heart almost shattered hearing the pain in his voice. I sat down beside him and took his hand in mine and said," I am not going to reject you and i'm so sorry that Indra made you feel like we were. Truth is, the reason why she came forward so suddenly is because before tonight, Rain and I were a couple. We have been together for the last three years and she's all Indra's ever known. She still loves her and she needs time to heal from losing her so suddenly. She isn't drawn to your wolf the same way that i am drawn to you, but she did tell me she would give him a chance she just needs time." He shook his head and said, "what do you mean by all she's ever known? Didn't you just get her tonight with the rest of the first shifters?" I shook my head and said," No, i come from a family where the women get their wolves at 16, but we aren't able to shift until we are 18. Which is why you weren't able to sense that i was your mate until now." He nodded and said,"Well i'm willing to give her time to heal, i don't want to lose either of you." I smiled and kissed him, and said, "thank you i really appreciate your patience with both of us." He wrapped his arms around me and said, "Im sure my sister filled you in on my first mate so im sure you can understand why i thought the two of you were rejecting me, but if she needs time, i wont rush her or you into anything until you are both ready." I laid my head on his chest and we looked up at the stars until they faded and the sun started coming up over the mountains.
