Evan had intended to drive to Myerson in the hope of getting closer to Luke and, if possible, having a long talk with him, especially if the boy could pick up anything more about Melissa’s whereabouts and welfare. But his long tutorial on children’s rights with Jeremy, along with the rigors of their aborted round of golf in the summer heat, had left Evan exhausted. To top it off, the emotional strain of encountering Leon Weiss had sapped what was left of Evan’s energy.
Leon confessed he hadn’t yet arranged for a place to stay. So Evan drove them back to his trailer, where he was encouraged to find that Leon was a kindred spirit, at least in terms of his love of Tennessee sour-mash whiskey.
Leon was an attentive listener. But he didn’t seem inclined to share anything about himself.
