Evan found Luke sitting up in his bed, fully dressed as he had been on their first meeting, his head bobbing to something he was hearing in his earbuds. When Luke looked up, Evan asked, “They let you have a phone?”
Luke removed the earbuds and explained, “It’s a phone with no SIM, no Wi-Fi. So no calls. You could smuggle me a chip, but I don’t know when I’d use it. They watch me all the time.”
“Video?”
Luke nodded as he pointed to a metallic sphere on the ceiling. Then he whispered, “But no audio!”
“How do you know?”
“Clint told me. Some legal thing about not letting staff hear what patients tell their doctors.”
“So, can you tell me any more about what’s going on with Melissa? Any clues about where she is?”
“No, she’s been sleeping for a long time. They probably gave her something.
