Every year, Jack Nathan fretted he wouldn’t be ready in time. The locals loved his annual fashion show. More importantly, the publicity and the brand promotion for the school helped keep enrollment up and the cash flowing. And, for the institutions that sent their girls to him, a successful show proved he could make silk purses out of sows ears. Because if it weren’t for his dressmaking skills and fashion sense, along with his savvy from his years in the industry, these newbie runway models would be raising prize hogs in 4-H or selling cookies for church or thrusting out their budding breasts on the cheerleading squad at the high school.
