*Title: Chapter 11 – The Last Play*
*Interpol HQ. Bahrain. 2:14 AM.*
Victor Kain sat in the interrogation room like he owned it.
No handcuffs. No fear. Just a smirk.
“You think arresting me ends this?” he said to the lead agent.
“We have you on 12 counts of corporate espionage, attempted murder, and fraud,” the agent replied. “It ends here, Mr. Kain.”
Victor leaned forward.
“Project Omega was a distraction,” he said. “My real asset is already in Manila.”
The agent frowned. “What asset?”
Victor smiled.
“Check your phone.”
The agent’s phone buzzed.
A single message. No sender.
*“Server Alpha is online. Countdown started.”*
The agent stood up fast. “Get me Manila now.”
Victor laughed. “Too late.”
---
*Kain Corp. 3:00 AM. Manila.*
My phone exploded at 3:00 AM.
Damian was already on his feet, pulling on his jacket.
“Server Alpha,” he said. “Victor’s backup facility. It just went live.”
I grabbed my laptop. “What’s on Server Alpha?”
“Everything he couldn’t get from Project Omega,” Damian said. “AI training data. Investor lists. Blackmail files. If he releases it, Kain Corp collapses overnight.”
Marco’s voice came through the speaker. “We have 4 hours until the countdown hits zero. He’s threatening to leak it to the public and SEC.”
I stood up.
“Then we shut it down.”
“Luna, it’s in Bahrain,” Marco said. “We can’t—”
“I’m not asking you to go to Bahrain,” I said. “I’m asking you to give me remote access.”
Damian stared at me.
“You can’t,” he said. “Server Alpha is air-gapped. No external access.”
I smiled.
“Unless you have someone inside.”
Damian’s eyes widened.
“Rafael.”
---
*4:30 AM. Rafael’s Hotel Room.*
Rafael opened the door in a t-shirt, eyes red from lack of sleep.
“You need me to get into Server Alpha,” he said.
I nodded. “Can you?”
Rafael hesitated. “Victor trained me on it. But if I go back, he’ll know. He’ll kill me.”
I stepped closer.
“He already tried to kill Mom,” I said. “And me. And Nico. This ends now, Rafael.”
Rafael looked at Damian, then back at me.
“Okay,” he said. “But I’m doing it for you. Not for Kain Corp.”
“Fair,” I said.
---
*6:00 AM. Kain Corp. War Room.*
Rafael was on a secure line, inside Server Alpha’s facility in Bahrain.
He’d used his old clearance codes to get in.
Victor’s men were still asleep.
“Access granted,” Rafael said, voice low. “I’m in.”
“Good,” Damian said. “Upload the killswitch.”
I handed Rafael the file. A virus I’d coded myself.
It wouldn’t destroy data. It would encrypt it and send the key only to Kain Corp’s legal team.
Victor would have nothing to leak.
“Uploading now,” Rafael said.
30 seconds.
20 seconds.
10 seconds.
“Victor’s awake,” Rafael whispered. “He’s coming.”
Footsteps echoed in the background.
“Rafael, get out!” I shouted.
“I can’t,” he said. “If I leave now, the upload stops.”
“Don’t be a hero,” Damian said.
Rafael smiled, just for me.
“I’m not being a hero, Luna. I’m being a father.”
Gunshots.
Rafael grunted.
“Upload complete,” he said, breathing hard. “It’s done.”
“Rafael!” I screamed.
“Take care of your mom,” he said. “And Luna… I’m proud of you.”
The line went dead.
---
*6:12 AM. Kain Corp. War Room.*
Silence.
Then Marco shouted.
“Server Alpha is offline! The data is encrypted! We have the key!”
Damian exhaled. “It’s over.”
I sat down hard, hands shaking.
Rafael was gone.
But Victor had lost.
---
*9:00 AM. Press Conference. Kain Corp. Lobby.*
I stood at the podium alone.
Damian was behind me, but this was mine.
“Yesterday, Victor Kain attempted to destroy Kain Corp,” I said. “He failed.”
The room was silent.
“Thanks to the bravery of Rafael Morales, Server Alpha is neutralized. Victor Kain’s assets have been seized. He will face trial in the Philippines for crimes committed against this company and my family.”
I paused.
“To my employees, our investors, and the public: Kain Corp is not just a company. It’s a promise. A promise to build technology that saves lives, not destroys them. And that promise starts now.”
Applause broke out.
Damian walked up beside me.
“You did it,” he said quietly.
“No,” I said. “We did.”
---
*12:00 PM. St. Luke’s Hospital. Quezon City.*
Mom woke up.
Nico was at her bedside, crying like a kid.
I sat beside her, holding her hand.
“You’re safe now,” I said.
Mom smiled, weak but real.
“I’m proud of you, anak,” she said.
I cried.
For the first time in years, I let myself cry.
---
*6:00 PM. Kain Corp. Rooftop.*
The war was over.
Damian and I stood together, watching the sunset over Manila.
No board meetings. No threats. No secrets.
“What now?” Damian asked.
I smiled.
“Now, we build something that doesn’t need to be saved,” I said.
Damian wrapped an arm around me.
“Sounds like a plan.”
My phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
I almost ignored it.
But I answered.
“Luna,” a voice said. Female. Young.
“Who is this?”
“My name is Amara,” the voice said. “I work for Victor Kain. And I have something you need to see.”
Damian looked at me.
I felt my stomach drop.
“Victor’s dead,” I said.
“Not everything dies with him,” Amara replied. “Check your email. Subject: Legacy.”
The line went dead.
