A flash of white light.
The force-field crackled as it sped toward her.
Melissa jumped over it, flipping through the air, landing in the middle of her high school biology classroom. Rickety, wooden desks filled most of the space between four green walls. She saw writing on the blackboard, but she couldn’t make sense of it. Why couldn’t she read it?
Shouldn’t there be people? Something about this room made it feel like there ought to be people here. She couldn’t put her finger on it. But she knew…somehow.
Melissa turned around and found herself looking into the silver eyes of a bald man who stood barely two feet away. Why hadn’t she sensed him with Spatial Awareness? That didn’t make sense. People weren’t supposed to sneak up on her.
