Chapter 7: Finding Strength

682 Words
The next day at school, Miki felt a mixture of anxiety and hope. Jax's public declaration of support had been both comforting and terrifying. He wasn't used to being the center of attention, and he worried about the potential backlash. But having Jax by his side gave him a newfound sense of courage. As Miki walked into the school building, he noticed that the usual whispers and stares were less intense than before. Some students even smiled at him or nodded in acknowledgment. It was a small change, but it made a big difference. During lunch, Miki sat with Jax and their friends, feeling more included than ever. The conversation flowed naturally, and Miki found himself laughing and sharing stories. It was a welcome change from the isolation he had felt before. "Miki, have you thought more about joining the music club?" Jax asked, looking at him with encouragement. Miki hesitated for a moment. "I've thought about it, but I'm not sure if I'm ready. What if they don't like me?" "They'd be crazy not to like you," Jax said with a grin. "You have an amazing voice, Miki. And besides, it's a great way to meet new people and do something you love." Miki nodded, feeling a spark of confidence. "Okay, I'll give it a try." After school, Miki made his way to the music club's meeting room, his heart pounding with nervous anticipation. He hesitated outside the door, taking a deep breath before pushing it open. Inside, a group of students were gathered around, chatting and tuning their instruments. A girl with bright blue hair and a friendly smile approached him. "Hey, you must be Miki. I'm Rachel, the club president. Jax told me you might be interested in joining." Miki nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. "Yeah, I love singing. I just... I've never done it in front of people before." Rachel's smile widened. "Don't worry, we're a pretty chill group. Why don't you sing something for us? No pressure, just have fun." Miki took another deep breath, his mind racing. He decided to sing "Ugly" by 2NE1, the same song that had drawn Jax's attention in the shower. As he began to sing, he felt the familiar rush of emotions, but this time, he also felt a sense of liberation. The music flowed through him, and for a moment, he forgot about his fears. When he finished, the room was silent for a few seconds before erupting in applause. Rachel beamed at him. "That was incredible, Miki! We'd love to have you in the club." Miki felt a warm glow of pride and relief. "Thank you. I'd love to join." As the days passed, Miki found himself becoming more involved in the music club. He bonded with the other members, discovering a sense of community he had never felt before. His confidence grew, and he started to believe in himself more. One afternoon, after a particularly good rehearsal, Miki and Jax walked home together. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the streets. "I'm really proud of you, Miki," Jax said, breaking the comfortable silence. "You've come a long way." Miki smiled, feeling a surge of gratitude. "I couldn't have done it without you, Jax. You've been my rock." Jax shrugged, a modest smile on his face. "It's what friends are for. And you've been there for me too, more than you know." Miki looked at Jax, his heart swelling with affection and appreciation. "Thanks, Jax. For everything." As they reached Miki's house, Jax gave him a playful nudge. "So, ready to conquer the world?" Miki laughed, feeling lighter than he had in a long time. "With you by my side? Absolutely." That night, as Miki lay in bed, he thought about how much his life had changed since Jax had entered it. He felt a sense of hope and determination. No matter what challenges lay ahead, he knew he could face them. Because now, he had a friend who believed in him and a community that supported him. And that made all the difference.
