Chapter 16: Cryptic clue

250 Words
Don Vincenzo's eyes scanned the dusty records, his heart racing with anticipation. He had searched countless orphanages, but this one held promise. "Anything?" Lorenzo asked, his voice low. Don Vincenzo's fingers traced the yellowed pages. "A record of two twins, matching the age... 'Baby Girl and Baby Boy, unknown parents'." Lorenzo's brow furrowed. "Could this be them?" Don Vincenzo's expression turned grave. "I need to know more." He closed his eyes, memories flooding back. --- Don Vincenzo's POV (Flashback): I received the call, my world shattered. Alessia's accident... my children, gone. But they weren't babies. They were toddlers, full of life. I recall the day Alessia left the hospital with our 5-year-old twins. I was working late, but she promised to be home soon. The police found her car, wreckage scattered everywhere. But there was no sign of my children. Panic consumed me. Where were they? Who took them? --- Don Vincenzo's eyes snapped open, determination burning within. "Lorenzo, I need to know if these twins are mine," he said. Lorenzo nodded. "We'll investigate further." Meanwhile, Enzo and Bella strolled through the gardens, unaware of the secrets unfolding. "Bella, what's troubling you?" Enzo asked. "Just memories," Bella replied. Enzo's arms enveloped her. "I'm here for you, Bella. Always." Lorenzo approached, his expression serious. "Enzo, we found something," Lorenzo said. Enzo's eyes narrowed. "What is it?" Lorenzo hesitated. "A cryptic message. 'Bella's truth lies in the shadows of the past.'" Enzo's grip on Bella's hand tightened. "We'll uncover the truth, together."
