The months to come

1313 Words
It had been five weeks since Jasmine had been intimate with Cooper, she had done well at avoiding being alone with him but wasn’t sure how much longer she would be able to keep it up for. When she suddenly came to the realization that she was late. She hasn’t gotten her period. She though about it a little more, she brushed it off. She was often late because of her anemia, so there was no need to panic. As the weeks turned into months she knew she was pregnant, but hadn’t gained much weight. Being too afraid to tell anyone, she hid the pregnancy, wearing spanks and baggy clothes. Not even her parents knew. She knew she wouldn’t be able to hid it forever, but she had already done so for 6 months, what was another 3… it’s not like there was anyone to help her. She was laying on the couch after a hot summers day and must of fallen asleep, as she was jolted away by her mom. “Jasmine, you have gotten very fat, stand up now and let me take a look at you” Jasmines worst fear had come to life. She forgot to put her spanx on and was now going to have to tell her mom. As her mom lifted her shirt, the tears welled in Jasmine’s eyes. “You’re pregnant! You are 15, how did you let this happen to you!” Jasmine’s mom said furiously. “It is obviously too late to have an abortion, so you will need to give this baby up. You cannot and will not keep it” her mom stated coldly. Jasmine had secretly grown extremely attached to her unborn baby, and swore to not give it up, as she struggled herself with being adopted. She didn’t ever want her unborn baby to feel the way that she constantly feels. The feeling of being unloved, second best and never enough for her adoptive mother. “I won’t give it up” Jasmine protests! “We’ll see about that” states her mother “you are going to the doctors first thing in the morning”. Jasmines mother talks to her school, and arranges for her to do school from home until the baby is born and then she will return to school. They tell her teachers that she is sick and has to be on bed rest. They have all created an elaborate story for Jasmine to fall in line with. Cooper is the first to say he thinks it’s the right thing to do and agree with Jasmine’s mother on all things baby related. Cooper brings Jasmine her homework every Friday, and proceeds to sit on the edge of her bed and constantly complain about how hard it is at school and how everyone is always asking about how she is. Jasmine can’t help but feel weighed down by it all. She knows that Cooper loves to be the centre of attention and if people are asking him about her, she knows how upset he would get. She can’t help but think to her self, does he even understand what I am going through…I can’t go out, I don’t have any friend to talk to, my mom is constantly yelling at me. She much rather be at school pregnant with people judging her, then in this prison she calls a home. Jasmine’s mom has set up multiple family’s for her and Cooper to meet with, so they can proceed with choosing an adoptive family for the baby. Jasmine is furious and ridden with guilt about this. She has no choice in the matter. Her mother stated that she either go through with the adoption, or she can go to a women’s shelter and have the baby there. Too afraid to be homeless with a baby, Jasmine begrudgingly agreed to the adoption process. She spends every night crying herself to sleep and most morning when she awakes she can still feel the tears rolling down her face. Jasmine is starting to near the end of her pregnancy and the reality is starting to set it. She could spend hours giving birth, just for this little baby to be carted away from her and she will never be able to see the baby again. The thoughts keep pouring through her mind, when her thoughts are interrupted by a knock at the door. She can hear her mother’s voice, all perky “of course, come in”. Jasmine makes her way down stairs and to her surprise Cooper’s mom and dad and sitting at the kitchen table with her mom. “We know that we said we agreed to the adoption” Cooper’s dad says, “but we would like to offer another option…”. With nothing but sweetness in her voice Cooper’s mom starts “we would like to formally adopt the baby. Jasmine will have the choice of a name for the baby, and will be able to see it whenever she please. We feel this is the best option, as we cannot process giving away apart of our family.” Jasmine’s moms face looks like she is in complete shock. Her mother was normally so put together, and always wanted to make sure the appearances of her family were perfect. Jasmine thought to herself, this is not going to end well. My mother will never agree to this, this completely jeopardizes her entire plan of passing me off as being sick. But Jasmine can’t help her excitement. “Yes!” She almost yells at Cooper’s parents “you can adopt my baby” she states, before her mom can interject, Jasmine and Cooper’s parents are hugging and are all overjoyed with the plan they have made. He mother sternly states “there will need to be a legal contract drawn up, stating visitation times and what everyone’s rights in this adoption will be. But if this is what you all agree upon, I guess I cannot argue.” Jasmine is over the moon with joy, feeling like she just defeated her mothers evil plans. She can’t help but say her goodbyes to Cooper’s parents and head back up to her bedroom with the biggest smile on her face. She lays on the bed, the her hand on her stomach, looking down at where her baby is growing she states “see little one, it will all work out. I will never leave you my little love. Forever mine you will be.” Jasmine didn’t realize how worn out she was from all of the excitement. Her eyes were getting so heavy, as she drifted off to sleep. Morning came all too soon, as Jasmine relished in her dreams. As weird as her dream was, she couldn’t help but smile. Jasmine had been keeping a journal, so that she wouldn’t go completely made while she was stuck in her home. She grabbed the journal from under her mattress and begin to recount her dream. “It was amazing. I was able to keep my baby and have him. The boy from the hallways that smelt like aftershave and fresh oak, the boy named Sam. In my dream, he found out about my baby and instead of being disgusted with me, he was filled with rage at Cooper. Sam stood up for me, and said it was Cooper’s fault, that he should of been more careful because I was the inexperienced one” Jasmine continued “Sam told me he wanted to be together even though he was graduating and that he would wait for me to be ready to accept him.” Jasmine signed off, xoxo Jasmine. Tucking the journal back under her mattress, she started to get ready. She had a doctors appointment today, and knew it was any day until the baby arrived.
