Chapter 12: My Chance

1126 Words
Wren POV He just left me here? Where the hell is he going, there is so much left unsaid. He just kissed me and then stormed out not before he ordered me to be moved to his bedroom. Not going to happen! I don’t even know what I am supposed to do with myself in this house. I need to get out of here, find a phone or a public road and flag someone down to help me.  Obviously he locked the front door but there has to be a backdoor or a window that can open. I strode to the back of the house looking for a door leading to the backyard. Yes there’s one! I rushed to the door and to my disappointment the door was locked. Really how paranoid is he? So window it is. It didn’t take long to find a set of widows that could open up. Most of the windows were not able to open just walls of glass. I was in what seemed to be a laundry room or wash room. The windows were up higher than I would of liked but I can use the shelves to climb up. I unlatched the window and pushed it open. Piece of cake! I hoisted myself up and shimmied out head first. I wasn't too high off the ground maybe six or seven feet. I swung my legs out and dangled from the window sill until letting go and hitting the ground. The fresh air filled my lungs and I felt so free. This only lasted a second or two before I realized I needed to hurry up and pick a direction to run.  Wait running looks odd. Everyone notices a person running. I just need to act like I know what I am doing. I began to walk quickly to the edge of the yard before it turned into a thicker wooded area. I remember this place in the yard where I watched Cal change into a wolf. The thought sent shivers down my spine. I can’t stay here, I need to move.  I weaved in and out of the trees, not moving too fast to cause attention from anyone. I hugged tightly to the trees trying to stay cautious to any noises that were close by. I could hear talking, men talking and laughing. I crouched down behind a tree surrounded by tall vegetation. I could see through the trees there was an opening to the left of where I was hidden. There was a group of guys chatting and joking around with each other. All of a sudden their heads all whipped back toward the direction I had traveled from. They took off running and instantly their clothes ripped apart and they were shifted into wolves just like Cal had done before.  I wasn’t an expert on these wolves yet but I knew that Cal knew I was out of the house. I turned the opposite way they had gone and ran as hard as I could to put distance between us. I kept close to the trees hoping they would give me some protection from someone spotting me.  I stopped immediately as a wolf appeared in front of me. It wasn’t as massive as Cal’s but still intimidating. It was light grey with dark patches stretched along its back. It’s eyes had the same amber glow that Cal’s wolf had.  “Please don’t hurt me...I ...I just can’t stay here it isn’t safe for me.” I could feel tears prick my eyes. I felt insane speaking to this creature like it cared or understood. It walked closer to me and nudged my leg with its snout. I was terrified and locked in place, a wolf was touching me and I wasn’t dreaming. The wolf nudged me again this time with enough force to make me stumble. It wanted me to move, and the direction was back towards the house. I knew there was no point in trying to outrun it or fight it. I would lose that battle.  I turned back and began walking with the grey wolf close by my side. We walked in silence for minutes that seemed like an hour until I heard him. His growl was one I had etched into my memory. I stepped out of the trees into the yard and saw Cal standing before me writhing in anger. He was wearing nothing but basketball shorts. His muscular chest was heaving as he took deep breaths. I was taking in the sight of him and did not realize the wolf beside me had gone back into the woods and left me alone with him. “House. Now.” His voice was stern and bit into me. I lowered my gaze and walked into the house through the backdoor I had discovered earlier. I walked through the house until I was back up stairs and heading towards my room. I could feel him following me his eyes were burning holes into my skull. I opened the door to my room and found the bed stripped down and the drawers open and empty. “I told you, you are to stay in the master bedroom from now on.” His hot breath covered my shoulder and ear. I could feel his heat radiating onto my back.  “And where is that almighty alpha Cal?” I turned around and stared into his dark blue eyes, he was angry but so was I.  He began to walk back down the hallway and stopped at two doors that opened up to a master suite. The walls were a dark emerald green and the furniture was a wooden oak with gold and black accents. There was a huge fireplace that sat across from the massive king size bed. There was a sitting area near the widows and bookshelves. The room was cozy and  inviting which wasn't what I expected to find.  I was busy taking in the room that I had forgotten he was still standing in the doorway watching me. He pushed his fingers through his hair and let out a sigh, His eyes were still their deep blue as he was still boring holes into me.  “You will be staying in here until I get back this afternoon from training and working on pack business.” He bitterly stated before shutting the door. I heard the lock click knowing he had trapped me inside.  I went to one of the black leather couches and curled my knees up into my chest. “I hate you.”
