CHAPTER FIVE

Happily Never After. Steve’s POV “You must be freaking out of your mind, Heather.” I nudged her to the side, and she almost fell to the floor. “If you lay another finger on me, Steve, I am calling the cops on you.” I stopped in my tracks and turned around. I was flabbergasted by her audacity. She probably bought it from a sale. She was taunting me and I hated that she even thought of doing it. “The cops huh? And what bullshit are you going to tell them?” She hissed at me, stomped harder and moved closer to me. She grabbed my tie, fumbling with it with her hands. “I will call them and report a case of domestic violence.” I laughed out loud, making it as hysterical as it can get. “I am sorry, no offense, but you sound foolish. You know I am very famous, right? I literally own the biggest company in the city. Telling the police that I laid a finger on you would just confirm my allegations that you are psycho.” I made weird circles around the sides of my head to confirm what I was saying. I watched her anger skyrocket through her body's reaction. She clenched her fist in a tight grip and her veins were visibly popping out of her head. “Steve, i am not crazy. If anything, you are driving crazy. Making me question my worth since I said I do on the altar.” “Question your worth? Why would you do that? You are a strong, independent woman who has the best job in the city, married to the man you fell in love with too. You are literally living the best life. You probably think you are doing me a favor by marrying me.” I sounded cocky, but I was just being brutally honest. “A favour? Is that what all of these are about? Do you feel like I am too good for you?” “Tsk, hold your horses, Heather. You are an IT girl, but I was totally fine before meeting you, maybe even better.” I tailed on her. “Better? What the hell does that even mean? Did you make the mistake of marrying me? She was furious but it came out as hurt. There were tears on the sides of her eyes and her voice was breaking. Seeing her cry was one of my greatest things, and I was not ready to go down, not without a good fight. “You don’t have to cry over everything, Heather. You are a damn adult.” She pulled her hair with her hands and groaned, roaring like an animal and grabbing a spoon from the shelf. “I am crying because you are messing with my emotions, Steve! It is barely a month after we got married, and it looks like you have revolved into another person. What did I do to you? Why do you hate me so?” She flung the knife, but I was quick enough to dodge it. Streams of tears flooded her eyes and she was turning a red tomato colour. “Owwwww! I am scared.” I raised my hands, making fake scared faces. “I f*****g hate you!” She hit my chest so hard and almost stabbed me with the knife, but it fell from her. I grabbed her hands and fling her to one side. “You hate me? Just over two months ago, I was the best thing that has happened to you.” She staggered back up, holding the couch for support. “So are you aware that you flipped out on me? f**k you Steve!!!” I smirked and licked my lips. I loved her feisty side. I loved to see her utter side of courage. “Heather…” I called out lowly, so it would sound baritone. I knew the effect that the sound of my voice had on her. She would sacrifice anything, even her life, if she heard me with this voice. And she fell into it as I wanted. I walked to where she fell, and pulled out my hand so she would get up. “You know how hard it is for me to use the S word, but I am very sorry. I am sorry about my actions these days. I have no proper excuse, except a big apology.” She brought her head down, using her legs to draw imaginary lines on the ground. I brushed my thumb on her chin, gently lifting it up. “Do you forgive me?” Her eyes met mine, and I slowly saw the tears condense and disappear. “I-i forgive you.” I hugged her, pulling her very close enough to get a nose filled with her scent and I kissed her forehead. I kissed her down to her face, taking my time to imprint my lip prints on her face. “Can I talk with Jayson? It is very urgent.” She broke her silence, gave me a light kiss and pulled out of me. “Why do you need to talk to him?” “I think-“ She looked at me and modded off. “You know what? If you are not cool with me talking to him, then call him yourself.” “What do you need me to tell him exactly?” “Stop tripping,Steve. Call your personal assistant. I need to ask him something. If you love me, you would do me this little favor.” “Put it on loudspeaker.” I sighed and dialed his number. He picked up at the third ring. “Hello Jay!” “Hey Steve, my man! How have you been?” “I am good and you?” “I am just doing great. I just got off the phone from Liam and Trey.” Jayson just f****d up. Why the hell would he mention their names?” At the mention of those names, Heather was triggered. She nudged me to continue the conversation. I did not want to, I did not have to. But ignoring her would be suspicious. “Okay, hope there is no problem?” “No, there is none. Just that b***h, Giovanni, has been on my neck. She is trying to clear all the evidence, so it would look like the robbery never happened.”
