As Luna Cecile came rushing out of the house, closing the door behind us, Nyla continued thrashing in Alpha Fredricks arms. "While it is a pleasure to finally meet you Nyla, this is not exactly the introduction I was hoping for" Fredrick sounded behind us. " Nyla, you need to calm down, if you continue to force this shift you are going to hurt Sarah and potentially your bond" Cecile cooed "please sweet girl, don't force it". Nyla was still snapping in the air as she reached for the Alpha, I was completely baffled at the way she was behaving towards the people who had taken us in for the last 3 years.
"NYLA!" I yelled as my voice bounced around my mind, "you need to stop this ! You are going to hurt yourself with all this flailing around, please, stop" I sighed as she turned inward to me. "How can you be so calm right now ?! They left us, and they just show back up, TODAY" Nyla huffed as she paced through the meadow of my mind. " Today is not about them, it is about you, about US. Yes, I am angry, I am hurt, but they were never really parents. We only benefited from them leaving, and you are lashing out at the only people who were there and have been there these past years," I scolded. I was trying not to be angry. I understood her, but all I could think about now was what if her actions caused Cecile and Fredrick to leave us too. She was acting like a child throwing a tantrum, except we were not their child.
I stood at the creek that ran threw my mind, similar to the one I spent my days as a child. Nyla slowed her pacing as she thought about my words and picked up on my anxiety about the situation. "I know you're right, I guess my emotions are just a little over the top today", Nyla mumbled as she came over and rubbed her body against my legs, trying to soothe both our nerves.
I wrapped my fingers in her fur as I knelt down and held her close. She was bigger than I imagined her to be, especially being an unranked wolf, it is unheard of for them to get much bigger than a large dog. However, she was strong and a force unlike any other, so I guess her size matches. She was a beautiful walnut brown with perfectly placed strands of cinnamon and deep amber eyes. She had a dark chocolate sock and a patch of white on her forehead, streaking down to her nose, it kind of resembled a shooting star. For the first time since being blessed with her presence, I was able to see her and really take in her beauty and feel the power she held.
I felt her pushing me forward as she pulled back, my dull green eyes replacing hers. Slowly I watched as my claws retreated and the fur on my arms and face receded. I looked at Luna Cecile who smiled, nodded and laid a hand on Alpha Fredricks arm. At that he loosened his grip on me, lowering me to my feet but not fully releasing me, " Sarah, is Nyla calmed down? " he asked cautiously. I nodded my head and turned to look at him, "yes, and she wants you to know how sorry she is for lashing out," I whispered, unable to continue looking at him. Instead, I focused on the tear in my jeans, the mess of brown elbow-length curls that were no longer held up in the elastic. I rubbed the back of my neck as the Alpha released me, Luna Cecile moved next to me, pulling my hair from my face and gripping my chin. "Nyla darling, thank you, I know today is not what any of us expected, but we love you, and we are so proud of you" She looked at me and I could tell she was talking to both mine and Nylas souls.
"Did you know they were coming?" I looked between the Luna and Alpha. I could tell even though Nyla was calm, she was at the edge and waiting to come forward again. " I got this, don't worry" I told her, as I pulled back just enough to stroke her fur, feeling her let out the breath she had been holding. " No, of course not! " Luna Cecile pulled me from my mind, the look on her face was as if my question pained her. "If we knew, we definitely would have told them to stay away" Alpha Fredrick scowled. I threw my hands over my face, rubbed at my already exhausted eyes. "Your right, I am sorry for asking, I just don't understand why they are here." Alpha Fredrick hugged me, ruffled my hair and then turned on his heels, letting out a deep low growl as he made his way back into the house, I can only guess he was going to figure out what is going on.
" We will let him sort this out, since you still have not eaten, we are going out today! " Cecile chimed, trying to lighten the mood, I opened my mouth to protest but before I could say anything, she grabbed my arm, spun me around and pushed me towards the car. "It is still your birthday, and I'll be damned if we let them ruin it, so let's go, no excuses." She opened the door pushing me into the passenger seat, and swinging the door closed as she walked around the car and got behind the wheel, "don't bother asking, it is a surprise, I absolutely will not tell you where we are going" she said matter-of-factly and with that, she started the car and began her way out of pack territory.
