ALPHA FREDRICK
I stood at the door as I watched the navy blue SUV pull away. "We are going to the city for a few hours, please try to have them gone before we get back" my mates voice rang through my head. The city is certainly not a place I enjoy her spending time, all it takes is for one thug to provoke Ruby, her wolf, and she will have exposed herself. Granted, my dear Cecile is rather remarkable when it comes to controlling her emotions.
"We found ourselves a good one, we are truly blessed by the goddess" gloated my wolf Hemi. All I could do was smirk in agreement, I rubbed my hand down my face and huffed as I stepped away from the door. Now that they were gone, I needed to find out what these imbeciles were doing here and why nobody on staff felt the need to share. " I need you to reach out to everyone in this house, on staff or otherwise and find out who knew they were here and why nobody bothered to give any of us a heads up" I bitterly mumbled to Hemi and he was gone.
Rounding the doorway and stepping into the dining hall, I could see the three strangers standing by the window, staring at where the car had been. " Where are they going and when will your mate be back with my daughter?" the grating sound of Madeline's voice filled the room, my entire body clenched at the desire to turn around and walk out before I had to continue listening to it. The word daughter caught my attention though and while I do not condone violence towards women, everything in me wanted to throw her at the wall.
Two and a half years ago, 5 months after they had left Sarah with us, they sent a transfer request to move to the Isles. Of course, I had approved it without a second thought, but nowhere in the request did they mention Sarah, the 15 year old girl they asked us to bring into our home and care for, for a few weeks. The same girl we have now grown to love as our own and have watched her come out of the shell these parasites stuffed her in.
"That is not of any concern to you" I calmly responded, looking between the unwelcome guests. "However, what I can tell you is that you have a lot of explaining to do, starting with why you are here?" The man I do not know raised a brow, looking at me as if I had just spoke out of turn and he couldn't be bothered. I clenched my fists, letting my eyes shift to Hemi's marvelous silver ones as I turned to look at Samuel, Sarah's so called father.
Before he could answer, Madeline's voice shrieked through the room. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S NOT MY CONCERN" she hollered, "SHE IS MY DAUGHTER, I HAVE EVERY RIGHT!" she continued as she stormed her way towards me. Samuel's eyes shot between his mate and me before he was fumbling over his feet in a vain attempt to stop her. The other man was quicker and, in one swift motion, he had her in his grip. She was a sickly thin size, no more than maybe 5 ft tall with long strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes that in this moment were staring at the man who had his arm around her waist.
For the first time since this interaction started, the man spoke. His voice was dark, with a tinge of frustration to it, but polite. "What I believe Madeline is meaning to ask is, could you please tell us when she will be back? Her parents have something to discuss with her in regards to her grandfather." "No, that is not what I am meaning" Madeline snapped as she tried to pull herself from his grasp. You could tell the man was bored with the situation. He cut a sharp look to Samuel, who nodded as the man dragged Madeline out of the room and out the front door.
I raised a brow at Samuel as he stood there with his scrawny arms fidgeting at his sides. His black hair was buzz cut, he wore plastic framed glasses that were a bit to big for his face. His tall build had put on some weight since I had last seen him and his green eyes looked tired. "What do you want Sam?" I just wanted to get right to it, I was growing tired of this whole thing and Hemi was back, waiting to give me the report I asked for. He leaned against the wall beside the window and let out a soft whimper "my dad passed last month" he whispered, almost inaudible. "I felt Sarah needed to know, but we also came because Caleb is her chosen mate and now that she is of age he has come to claim her" he said so nonchalant.
I felt my face go red as if all the blood in my body rushed to it, Hemi was now on all fours and barring his teeth, what the f**k did I just hear. "Does this man have a death wish?! In what world does he think we will accept this" Hemi wanted a fight. A dangerous growl ripped from my throat, causing Samuel to step back, throwing his hands in front of himself as if that would protect him.
"What. Did. You. Just. Say" My voice was that of both mine and Hemi's. Samuel's eyes widened as he tried to explain "Caleb is, was, Alpha Devons son." He ran his hand along the top of his head and down the back of his neck, Devon was the Alpha of the Collinus Pack, which was wiped out nearly 10 years ago. " Alpha Devon knew the pack was in trouble, he had sent Caleb to the isles in secret to protect him from any threat. That is the reason we were not in the pack when it was attacked. We delivered him to my father, a nobody who wouldn't be given a second look, my father raised him, with the promise from Alpha Devon he is to be mated to our Sarah."
Samuel was staring out the window, watching his mate kick the stones in the driveway, presumably still screaming about the answer I had given her. Hemi was pacing, "Are we really just going to allow this" he growled "Sarah and Nyla are ours". "No, they are not ours, I wish they were, but they are not. Devon was a good man, if this was his final vow than we don't have to like it, but we have to accept it" I could tell Hemi had turned his tail to me at my response.
" First, she is not "your Sarah", you lost that right when you left her here 3 years ago without so much as a goodbye, second, I do not agree to this" I finally said. Samuel stood straight and looked like he was about to protest my words, but before he could, "I don't agree to it, but Devon was a good man, and I will honor him by giving Sarah the choice. However, Cecile and I will speak with her. The three of you are to go nowhere near her until we say otherwise and we will absolutely not have this conversation today. Today is her and Nylas day." Samuel nodded in agreement. He didn't have a choice, there was no room in my words or tone for negotiation. " You can stay in your old house, I will have someone fetch you the day after tomorrow to hear Sarah's answer" and with that I walked out of the room.
