CHAPTER 1

1048 Words
AUDREY'S POV I stretch my limbs as I wake up on my couch. I dust off the popcorn on my large top and get up from the couch. I can't remember anything from last night and I find it weird. Did I drink? I decided not to think and went to my bathroom to wash my face. I pour water on my face and look at myself in the mirror. I had eye bags and my face looked so dull, probably because I had nothing to do and I hadn't been on any missions till now. My name is Audrey Halloway and I work as an undercover agent for my company. I expose greedy and fraudulent millionaires and even billionaires. I love my job, but in four months I've not been called for the job at all. I called my boss millions of times but all she said was there wasn't a job for me yet. I kept calling until she got tired and blocked me. I'm not fired but she threatened that I would be if I kept calling. I immediately stopped calling and that was the beginning of my lazy lifestyle. I didn't have anything to do, so all I did was, watch movies, eat, sleep, go for runs, and repeat. It became my routine and I eventually got tired. I tried to apply for different jobs but they didn't work out. Either I was too strong or I was being harassed by disgusting middle-aged men. I eventually gave up on looking for a job and went back to my normal routine. I even tried making friends and dating them, but that didn't work out as well. The friends I made dumped me because of my movie choices. It's not my fault that I loved 2000s movies. I considered them stupid and mad and dumped them as well. The men I went on blind dates with never took real interest in me. All they did was compliment how great my ass looked. They were so lewd for absolutely no reason. I decided to do it with them and stopped blind dates. I walk out of my bathroom and enter my living room before slouching on my couch. I put on my favorite movie and watched it again and again. That's the thing with me. I could watch a the particular movie again and again without getting bored of it. Maybe that's why the friends I made dumped me, but who cares? As long as I have my food, my TV and electricity- The lights go off and I curse out loud. Why do the lights have to go off now? Just when I was enjoying my movie. It was dark and I tried to look for my phone. I didn't realize that my foot was very close to a wooden table and I hit it when walking. I scream in pain as my foot hits the wooden table. I heave for breath and continue searching for my phone. I found it and immediately turned the flashlight on. I hate the darkness. I opened my apartment door and I walked down to my landlord's door to complain. My landlord is a pretty aggressive old man, but right now I want to continue watching my movie. I knock on his door but no one answers. I knock again, and this time he answers. He has something like grease all over his shirt and I try not to gag. “ Mr. William, my power has been cut and you need to fix it”. For a moment, he doesn't answer me but bursts out in loud laughter. What's so funny? “Are you dumb Audrey? “ I'm not, I just need to know why my power has been cut- “You haven't paid your rent, now don't disturb me unless you have your rent with you”. He slammed the door on me before I could talk. Dang it, I forgot my rent was due. What do I do now? Thank goodness my phone was fully charged. I guess I could use that to sleep. I walk back to my apartment but something stops me on the way. I see a door wide open and I see a man and a woman kissing passionately. I suddenly feel lonely as ever as I watch them kiss. I've never had a decent boyfriend due to my work and I've never fallen in love. No one captured my heart, no one interested me the way I wanted and no man made me feel the way I wanted to feel. I stop staring at the couple and continue to walk to my apartment. I open the but it doesn't budge. Why does today feel like bad luck? Well, every day seems like bad luck to me, but right now this door needs to open. I tried to force it open but it didn't work. OK, now I'm getting anxious, I don't wanna sleep outside. This whole building is filled with people who might want to kill me the second they see me. I tried using my shoulder but it still didn't open. I groan out loud and pace stop thinking of ways to open this door without breaking it down. I'm out of ideas and I slide my body down on the wall on the verge of crying. What do I do now? I can't sleep here. I hear voices and I screech in terror. I realize it's male voices and they're getting closer. Because of all this, I know they could be killers or assaulters. I see one of them and our eyes meet. I see him smirk and an idea comes immediately. I kick the door with my leg and I see it opening a little. Three of the men see me and they begin to walk towards me. I kicked the door again while looking at the men walking faster. I use force this time and the door opens. I quickly go in before they can reach me and I lock the door immediately. That was a close call. I hear them go away and I sigh in relief. Just then, my phone rang and the caller ID said “ Boss”. “ No way”.
