Chapter 4 - The Voice Inside Me

226 Words
Suddenly, something inside me laughed. And it wasn't my wolf. I froze. The laughter came again, louder this time. But it wasn't coming from the forest. It was coming from inside my head. “Luna…” I stumbled backward. “Who are you?” Damon grabbed my shoulders. “Don't answer it.” I stared at him. “You can hear it too?” His expression changed. “No.” “Then how do you know?” Damon looked at the mark on my palm. “Because I've heard that voice before.” My heart stopped. “When?” He hesitated. “Eighteen years ago.” Before I could ask what he meant, the three strangers suddenly dropped to their knees. All three bowed their heads toward me. “She's awake,” one whispered. Damon stepped in front of me. “Run.” But the voice inside my head laughed again. This time, it sounded like my mother. “Don't run, Luna.” “Come find me.” I looked at Damon. “Where is my mother?” He said nothing. Then the stranger behind him smiled. “She isn't dead.” My blood went cold. Damon turned sharply. “Don't you dare—” A scream echoed through the forest. And it sounded exactly like my mother's voice. “Luna!” I ran toward it.
